hey folks, I don't often post threads, but I felt this deserved one of its own.

Some "Y-12" protestors over the weekend penetrated the United States most highly protected uranium enrichment / nuclear weapons plant.

Follow the link, bizarre story and serious national security implications here.. not being run on the mainstream channels yet?

Three peace activists, including Sister Megan Rice, an 82-year-old nun, were arraigned this morning on federal trespassing charges in connection with Saturday's pre-dawn break-in at the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant, and U.S. Attorney Bill Killian indicated that other charges could be added later.

...The three were dressed in two-tone, gray-striped jail garb, shackled at the hands and feet....

Y-12 ...went "much, much further" than previous protests in which activists simply crossed the government plant's boundary line.

The protesters are reported to have cut through three or four fences in order to gain access to high-security areas of the nuclear weapons plant. Once there, they allegedly spray-painted messages and poured human blood on a Y-12 building known as the Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility. The facility contains the nation's primary supply of bomb-grade uranium.

Info about the facility:

The facility that later became Oak Ridge National Laboratory was established as part of the Clinton Engineer Works for the Manhattan Project in 1943 during World War II, when American scientists feared that Nazi Germany was rapidly developing an atomic bomb. Both the laboratory and the nearby city of Oak Ridge were built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in less than a year on isolated farmland in the mountains of East Tennessee. Oak Ridge became a "secret city" that within two years housed more than 75,000 residents.

I like the Libertarian position:

If the power companies had to pay 100% of the liability insurance, then we (probably) would not have any Nuke plants.

This place is about an hour from our house. My wife and I ran a half marathon and the race adjoins the property with all the nuclear facilities. http://secretcityhalfmarathon.com/course/

It seemed weird they would even allow a race that close to something of so much national security interest. And in years past the race was even ran at a more vulnerable and closer location to all the facilities.

Didn't Steven Seagal do a movie exposing something like this in Tennessee?

Not sure? This documentary tells all about how the Oak Ridge facility was formed for WWII though. It's kind of interesting to think how huge it was and still kept a secret: http://www.secretcitythemovie.com/

Is that necessarily a libertarian position? I don't believe auto insurance ought to be mandatory even though it is reasonable to hold liable those responsible for accidents. Mandating insurance is mandating that a portion of the money is wasted in useless, nonproductive overhead or profit and Vegas-style gambling.

What is to stop a mandate to insure any possible harm anybody can cause?

Why doesn't my umbrella policy mean I am not required to buy auto insurance? After all, if my assets cover everything up to the deductible, then the underlying auto policy is superfluous in covering any harmed individuals.

Here is the truth when it comes to mandating insurance. It is not about spreading risk but rentseeking.

With nuclear power, what is the risk compared to floods, tornados, wild fires, earthquakes, mud slides? Were I at risk, safety provisions would assure me more than some piece of paper. If paper is needed, then *I* should buy it.

So if these people can cut through these fences (why aren't they electric?) and get this close to high security buildings, what would trained spies, or spec-ops recon types be able to pull off? Somebody better get an ass wrangling for this.

I have been warning Christians that all the Anti-Muslim hate will come back and bite them in the butt.

expect it.

You bet. Heads are rolling in TN as we speak and allegedly the military will be taking over security of that location within days.

Somebody fucked up big time. Of course the suspicious side of me wonders whether protesters getting behind 4 layers of DOE security and hanging around for 2 hours playing with human blood and spray paint was an inside job.

I'm been doing the exact same thing. The demonization of Islam and infrastructure built up to track and attack it is just laying the foundation, a beta test, for when it's turned onto Christians.
