Our occupation of Afghanistan worked out well.
Afghanistan was the world's greatest producer of illegal opium (which is also converted to heroin and morphine) just before the Taliban banned poppy production in early 2001. This dramatically reduced world-wide production of opium.

Following our invasion, production swiftly returned to previous levels. In 2006, opium production in Afghanistan reached levels not seen since China in the 19th century.
Oh, the unintended consequences of our foreign policy..
