Note the totals for gun deaths versus deaths by stabbing and bludgeoning. Also, how many of the rifle, other gun, and unclassified gun deaths are related to the War on Drugs? Betting that's pretty high. If the government wanted to make a statistical, logically-based argument for gun control, they'd snatch up handguns. Moral of the story: News at 11, Government is a lying sack of shit, exploits a recent event to attempt to take assault rifles away from people who statistically don't use them to kill other people.

Also, found this interesting:

http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

Crime is down massively, across the board, since the 1970s, per capita.

http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/data/lwenfemp.csv

This table is a bit harder to follow, but note that while crime has been massively decreasing, the police force has been rising.

Even when people stop robbing and killing each other, the government takes more of your money to pay more goons to lord over you. And put you in prison for non-violent "crimes".
