Some of these atheist groups should join forces with the Westboro Baptist Church; they both have a knack for acting like total a-holes in public while others are grieving. Both also seem real tone-deaf about what is detrimental to their cause.

That's true, but not all publicity is good publicity. Being well-known doesn't do you any good if 90%+ despise you.
