from DP:
At the request of some fellow DPers, I'm making this a separate post.
I want to make sure everyone realizes that the convention does NOT start on Monday Aug 27th but rather the week prior with committee meetings. Here is the schedule from Republican Party of Texas Deputy Executive Director Chris Elam. I'm having trouble sourcing this information, but it came in a direct email from Chris. Here is the best confirmation I could find from an official source which confirms the date of the Platform Committee meeting.
From Chris Elam:
The week prior to the convention (August 19 to 25), the following events will take place:
- Platform Committee at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina (Sun. Aug. 19 to Tues. Aug. 21)
o Welcome Reception Sunday evening with meetings on Mon. and Tues.
- RNC Summer Meeting at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina (morning of Wed. Aug. 22 to Fri. Aug. 24)
o All RNC members should plan on arriving either Tues. evening or Wed. morning
- Convention Rules Committee at the Hyatt Regency Tampa (Thurs. Aug 23 to Sat. Aug. 25)
o Orientation on Thurs., meeting on Fri. and Sat. if necessary
- Credentials Committee at the Hyatt Regency Tampa (Thurs. Aug 23 to Sat. Aug. 25)
o Orientation on Thurs., meeting on Fri. and Sat. if necessary
- The week of convention, is the first meeting for the Permanent Organization Committee Permanent Organization Committee at the Tampa Bay Times Forum (Mon. Aug. 27)
Bump, share, and show up!
For anyone that is not familiar with the convention process, ALL the real work happens in committee. The actual general assembly at the convention is the ceremonial rubber stamp. In Texas we had a successful convention because our delegates flooded the temporary committees constantly and made them know we were watching. Most of them fell in line with 100 eyes on them watching and recording their every move. We had packed committees everyday. It is important to flood these meetings with well-mannered, well-dressed, knowledgeable, and rules people.....if they let us in. Our team from Texas will have people there. Will your state?
