Summary:

August 7 - Primary for NEW MI-11 / Only Kerry is on ballot

September 5 - Special Primary for OLD MI-11 / Anyone can file as a candidate

November 6 - General for NEW MI-11 (winner is Rep for next two years) and Special General for OLD MI-11 (winner is Rep for next two months only)

Only the winner of the August 7 primary will be on the November 6 general election ballot for the NEW MI-11. The prize is the NEW MI-11. Whoever wins the special primary/general will only be a Congressman for the OLD MI-11 for two months.

Man, we can't catch a freaking break.

He had the power to grant the winner of the general immediate occupation of the seat, and instead he gives us this?

I don't think this affects us in any way. If anything, I think this helps us because it will cause a lot of confusion amongst voters. The one thing we know for sure is that Kerry's name will be on the August 7 ballot. That's all that really matters because the special is only a race to be a Congressman for two months while the regular election is to be a Congressman for the next two years.

So old MI-11 is of no concern to us I guess?

Well there's no need to ignore it since the special primary is less than a month after the regular primary and if you already have a campaign organization in place, you might as well use it.

A problem might occur if Kerry wins the regular primary but Nancy wins the special primary and the same Dem wins both the regular and special primary.

On November 6, many people will see on their ballot Kerry vs Dem and Nancy vs Dem. This might hurt us in a way if Republicans don't vote in both elections on the same ballot because it is confusing.
