According to OpenSecrets.org, Obama had the most support from the armed forces in March. Previously, Republican Ron Paul had been the darling of military members making campaign donations.

But as Paul’s candidacy fades, Obama has been able to swoop in and pull support to his camp. According to OpenSecrets, in March Obama received $36,448 from military members. Paul received $17,733 in campaign donations and Romney received $8,630.

I guess our military supports the more moderate warmonger (Obama) over the more extreme warmonger. (Romney)

Too bad they don't support an anti-war candidate

Is the military going to Obama (more than previous months) or was it just by default (as in Paul getting less donations)?

But still...

For the entire election cycle, Paul has received $333,134 in donations from the military. President Obama is second with $184,505 and Romney is third in donations with $45,738.

This happened last time too. Somehow they hold out hope that he'll bring the troops home, if for no other reason than to save his political hide. If they got some hope that Ron Paul could pull out the nomination, they'd shift back.

There's no excuse for sending money to a war pig like Obama whether Paul is nominated or not.

My thought, too, but if you're getting deployed every year, you end up grasping at straws. Also, Obama wasn't engaged in a primary, so many Dems in the military felt no need to donate to him. Now, as the general election nears, more of them are donating.

The donations are not coming from the military itself but are personal donations from people who indicated they work for or are members of the particular branch of the miltary. It is not really "the military" donating but military people.

From Open Secrets:
http://www.opensecrets.org/pres12/contrib.php?cycle=2012&id=N00009638

This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2012 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organizations' PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

That's true: "the troops".The FEC website breaks down donations by things like ZIP codes, Occupation, etc. Overseas is pretty easy: use the ZIPs. Any name under that is a SOFA stuatus person. The occupation column will tell what they do: contractor, pilot, teacher. American citizens just overseas, however, would list by their home of record, I assume.
