I wonder if those politicians will vote for it if they think that either Ron or Rand could end up VP?
They might want to stay on the good side of the Paul's just in case.

Tomorrow is the last day to pressure the House Oversight Committee members before they vote on the bill on Wednesday. Remember, there is always the possibility that a member will offer an amendment to water down the bill (as Mel Watt did in the last Congress).

Make sure Ron Paul is in control and accordingly to his rules of diligent, anti-corruption, integrity and publicly open as the approach to a thorough scrutiny without any objections for total transparency.....

Some of those senate that are in this side of the auditing would be more likely be shills of the establishment, in order for them to highjack and take control of the auditing as they will make the rulings and the limits of transparency in making sure that it legally passes according to them...

"It will be like auditing in the dark with no lights as it passes exemptions and by then in legality its been transparent and open, this is what controlled opposition would do"

Darrell Issa submitted the first amendment to HR 459.

I was worried he might have watered down the bill since he hasn't cosponsored but the only things he changed was the title of the bill (changing 2011 to 2012) and the date which the audit must be completed. HR 459 specifies an audit to be completed before the end of 2012 while Issa's amendment specifies an audit to be completed within 12 months of the date of enactment of the Act.

But that is after Ron leaves the House and the subcommittee. Do we have any faith at all if it isn't audited while Ron is there that it will ever happen? It isn't like they can't keep bouncing it down the road or reconsider its terms.

It is kinda hard to sell in a letter "we don't think for a moment you'll do it if it is after Ron is gone" but if it passes with that it is sure going to seem to me they kicked the can down the road, and we didn't really get it -- until and unless it actually happens.

On the other hand, I don't know if an audit can be accomplished in the time left. Maybe JUST an audit of the parts usually left out could be by then...

So, now we need a campaign to contact reps/senators to refuse the amendment that forstalls the audit?

The last audit bill included in Dodd-Frank had the same provision (complete audit within 12 months) so I'm not too worried about it. You're right that there won't be enough time left to get it done by the end of 2012 because it still has to pass the House and the Senate then signed by the President. That could take another couple months.

It needs a majority of votes. There are 40 members (23 Republicans and 17 Democrats). 27 members have cosponsored HR 459.

Issa offered an amendment that would extend the time allowed to complete the audit from the end of 2012 to 12 months from the enactment of the bill. It's a reasonable request given the amount of time left in 2012 and Campaign for Liberty says they support the amendment.

Dear XXXXXX

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is expected to vote tomorrow (Wed, June 27) on H.R. 459, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act (“Audit the Fed”).

We’ve received word that an amendment will be offered to extend the time when the audit’s results need to be reported from the end of 2012 to one year after the bill is enacted.

C4L supports this amendment, but I need your help to guarantee Audit the Fed passes the committee without being watered down and makes it to the House floor as the strong, thorough audit the American people are demanding.

I’ll provide a link where you can find the members of the committee in just a moment, but first, here’s how you can help pass Audit the Fed.

1.) If your representative is on the committee, and if they have cosponsored H.R. 459, please call them right away to thank them for cosponsoring. Along with voting “YES” on H.R. 459 in committee, let them know you also expect them to resist any attempt to water down the bill.

2.) If your representative is on the committee but has not yet cosponsored, urge them to not only vote “YES” on H.R. 459 in committee, but to clearly stand with the American people and boldly declare their support for transparency by cosponsoring Audit the Fed right away.

3.) Spread the word! Tell your family and friends to take action and help end the Fed's rein of destruction and secrecy.

You can find a list of committee members here: http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/8990535:12386366261:m:1:170779741:4244BECAE19E54A2 1B8AB4A1A8932EA5:r

Even if your representative is not on the committee, please still contact them to demand their support for Audit the Fed when it comes to the House floor for a vote this July.

After years of hard work, you and I stand on the verge of making history by passing Audit the Fed!

But now is not the time to take anything for granted.

So please contact your representative right away and help C4L finish this fight! http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/8990535:12386366261:m:1:170779741:4244BECAE19E54A2 1B8AB4A1A8932EA5:r

Issa's amendment passed, crap, that means a delay in the audit when Ron will not be in congress, crap!

So Elijah Cummings offered an amendment to gut the bill, withdrew that amendment, then offered another amendment that, I think, asks the GAO to audit some things related to mortgages.

The bill with Cummings amendment was approved and will be sent to the House.

Cummings' amendment replaces some/all of the text. Are we sure Cummings' amendment was just to add additional audit requirements and not to screw up the original?

Thats what i'm trying to figure out. Was the amendment just an additional audit, or does it replace the intent of the original bill... given the first amendment he put up, i'm guessing the later. What just happened?

Was it Cumming's amendment or Issa's that was included in the bill?

It sounded like Cummings' amendment just added MORE audit stuff, but it did say it was to replace the original text so I'm not really sure what happened.

poster on Daily Paul clarified:

Issa offered an amendment that would extend the time the audit can be completed from the end of 2012 to 12 months after the bill is enacted. Campaign for Liberty supports this amendment.

Cummings offered an amendment to gut the audit. He then withdrew it after it sounded like he had no support.

Cummings offered another amendment that would require some additional audit related to mortgages.

The bill passed with Issa's amendment and Cummings' second amendment.

A FULL audit bill is headed to the House.

The way I understood it was that Issa's amendment passed. Cumming's first (gut the bill) failed and his second (add on additional audits of mortgages) passed.

Damn, now the timeline for the audit is extended...I was really hoping that Ron would still be in congress (office) when the audit came in...

That's me. Given that Issa was strongly against Cummings' first amendment and ok with his second amendment, the original intent of the bill is still in tact. Cummings' amendment hasn't been posted so we don't know the text but the way he described it, it sounded like it was adding more audit language to the bill.

It would have happened regardless. The GAO would have asked for additional time to complete an audit because there's not enough time to do it by end of 2012.

Ron Paul held a hearing on auditing the gold reserves and the GAO said that if Ron wanted a thorough audit, he would have to give the GAO more time than was stated in his bill.

Now if it can pass the Senate "as is" without "watering down" amendments and the pres will sign it. Everyone prepared for a campaign to get a veto override?

One can easily determine how deep the indoctrination of the masses are simply by knowing that the leaders are debating, in 2012, whether or not to audit the bank that prints the money. lol. It is very sad.

You know Obama will add a signing statement saying something like "the names of the criminals are to be kept private until the end of my term"

Yea, the problem has been the Senate since the last Congress. If we are serious in wanting to get a full audit, we're going to need everyone on board in pressuring the Senate to pass S 202.

We need people to write, email, and call their Senators. Find out where their public events are held and video record them. Get people in the (liberal) media to write about the audit. This needs to be a bipartisan effort to get this passed the Senate.

We need a 2/3 majority in the senate. Period.

I encountered Gus Bilirakis and made sure I told him thank you for supporting the Audit the Fed bill.

He said he loves Ron Paul and hopes the bill pushes through. :)
