Nice. :) Problem with that is that the classical republic envisioned 230 years ago has long been destroyed. It's more of a fascist state now.

Except most people have no idea what fascist means, except that it has a negative connotation.

lolz, that's true. The government schools have accomplished what they were set up to do- maleducate the masses.

Not sure if you wrote the blog post, but a well written little piece.

"Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance."
- H.L. Mencken

"There can be no such thing as "limited government," because there is no way to control an entity which in principle enjoys a monopoly of power."
-Joseph Sobran

Yep, it's my blog. Just trying to get some traffic to it.

Democracy is nothing more than mob rule. The founders knew this, hence we have a republic.

Exactly!

Also - concerning "civilian" v. "insurgent" - you'll find this article interesting, if you haven't seen it already:

“Militants”: media propaganda:
To avoid counting civilian deaths, Obama re-defined "militant" to mean "all military-age males in a strike zone"
By Glenn Greenwald

LOL if you think that what we have now isn't mob rule.

America became a "Democracy" in 1913. Really 1861 but 1913 for sure.

I've always liked this quote:

"Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner."

I'll see those, and raise you these:

"Democracy is also a form of worship. It is the worship of Jackals by Jackasses. Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."
-H. L. Mencken

"Our contemporaries are constantly excited by two conflicting passions: they want to be led, and they wish to remain free. As they cannot destroy either the one or the other of these contrary propensities, they strive to satisfy them both at once. They devise a sole, tutelary, and all-powerful form of government, but elected by the people. They combine the principle of centralization and that of popular sovereignty; this gives them a respite: they console themselves for being in tutelage by the reflection that they have chosen their own guardians. Every man allows himself to be put in leading-strings, because he sees that it is not a person or a class of persons, but the people at large who hold the end of his chains."
-Alexis de Tocqueville

Democracy is mob rule and republics are mitigated mob rule. Both suffer the same fate, albeit the former sooner than the latter. We're only talking about how fast it devolves, not some fix in the predictable de-evolution. Slowing down cancer doesn't count as a cure for cancer.

Exactly.

Taking a detour to hell still gets you there in the end.

rofl...

Tell me, which of these sounds worse:

-Today, US troops killed nine Iraqi insurgents.
-Today, US troops killed nine Iraqi civilians.

"Whoa," you may be saying, "insurgents and civilians are totally different!" Well, that's why you're a fucking moron. You think we were fighting an army over there? We beat the army in the first week. Who the hell do you think we've been killing all this time?

We all discovered Democracy was bad at a young age when we played keep away. That is unless you weren't the one running around trying to get the ball.

Actually, democracy probably wouldn't be so bad if it required an overwhelming majority like 75%.
Slight majorities create division.
