Matt Collins

I asked Senator Corker (known in TN as "Bailout Bob") about whether or not he would vote to ratify the United Nations 'Law Of The Sea Treaty'. I suggest EVERYONE show up to their Senators' events and film them asking the same question in the next few weeks.

Here is his response, with video:

I randomly ran into Teh Collins as he was entering the building that Bailout Bob was speaking in. When I asked him what he was doing and why he had a camera he just smiled and pointed at a Hybrid SUV and said "do you know who's car that is?" When I said 'no' he told me to check out the forums for the video. Well done sir.

Question. Why does it bother you that Matt would want traffic for a local Campaign for Liberty Website? Seriously, why? Do you really think it's a good idea for all of our internet presence to be at RPF and DP? That seems rather shortsighted on your part. tncampaignforliberty.org is not owned or operated by Matt Collins. It's for the entire Tennessee Liberty movement. I would think you'd want such a website to get as much traffic as possible. Oh well. Crabs in a bucket.

Here is his response when one e-mails his office about it.

Non-committal of course:

Dear XXXXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting my office to share your concernsabout ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Your input is important tome, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

As you know, the United Nations Convention on the Law ofthe Sea is a legal agreement between member states concerning activities on, over and under the world'soceans.

Over the course of the past few years, I have participatedin a number of hearings and have met with several of the opponents and proponents of the treaty. Thistreaty is complex and though it has been strengthened since it was first drafted more than 30 years ago, there are still portions that raise concern. Given the complicated nature of this treaty, I will continueto study its merits over the coming year and appreciate the input and insight you have provided withregard to its value.

Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continueto share your thoughts with me over the course of my term.

Sincerely,

Bob Corker

Matt, send your video and Corker's response to Bobby Petray. In several of her email blasts she's mentioned opposition to the L.O.S.T. Also I just called Corker and Alexander to voice my own opposition:

Senator Lamar Alexander: 202-224-4944
Senator Bob Corker: 202-224-3344

Thanks for reminding me of this issue.

I'm not a fan of Bob Corker by any means, and I oppose this treaty. However, I don't really see what's wrong with a Senator reading and studying a treaty before he sides whether to vote for or against it.

Tennessee may have the worst Republican senator tandem in the country. I don't understand how they get re-elected?

However, I don't really see what's wrong with a Senator reading and studying a treaty before he sides whether to vote for or against it.It's been around for 30+ years, Reagan refused to sign it for a reason, and anyone who looks at it for 5 minutes understands it's subversive to the Constitution and American business not to mention undermining soverignty.

Breaking News: Senator Ayotte Will NOT Support the LOST Treaty
by Steve MacDonald
http://granitegrok.com/blog/2012/07/breaking-news-senator-ayotte-will-not-support-the-lost-treaty

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 16, 2012

Senators Portman and Ayotte Sink Law Of The Sea Treaty

Two Senate Armed Services Committee Members Announce Opposition In Letter To Majority Leader Harry Reid, Saying “No International Organization Owns The Seas”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-Ohio), ranking member on the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee, and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), ranking member of the Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support, sent a letter today to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in which they announced their opposition to Senate ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Citing significant concerns about the breadth and ambiguity of the treaty, and more importantly, the risks to U.S. sovereignty due to issues regarding enforcement and adjudication, the two members of the Senate Armed Services Committee stated, “After careful consideration, we have concluded that on balance this treaty is not in the national interest of the United States. As a result, we would oppose the treaty if it were called up for a vote.”

Portman and Ayotte continued, “We simply are not persuaded that decisions by the International Seabed Authority and international tribunals empowered by this treaty will be more favorable to U.S. interests than bilateral negotiations, voluntary arbitration, and other traditional means of resolving maritime issues. No international organization owns the seas, and we are confident that our country will continue to protect its navigational freedom, valid territorial claims, and other maritime rights.”

Because the Constitution requires 67 affirmative votes for the Senate to ratify a treaty, and 31 senators have previously signed a letter in opposition and a 32nd senator announced his opposition, Portman and Ayotte’s announcement makes efforts to ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty dead in the water in this Congress.

The number of senators against the Law of the Sea Treaty will increase in January, but Democrats may try to ram the treaty through before they get there.
