I remember reading this, and thinking, "does the MSM ever even try to report the truth?"
I have been watching the news, and to me, it is clear, mass shootings have seen a steep rise. Especially if compared to the 1980's. I was a paperboy, and I read the paper everyday, and mass shootings simply were not nearly as common as they are today, no way, no how.

There was a little youtube movie called "melt-up" that started with a man committing suicide, and the maker got a lot of flak for that, but he said it would be a reality. I agreed, as the economy continues to crumble, Americans will get more and more violent... ...especially the men, who have been marginalized. (women now hold a majority of the jobs in the United States, http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2010/07/the-end-of-men/8135/)

This is an incredibly dangerous social situation, as women generally require their mates have jobs, but not visa versa, and as is well known, as a group, men without families are far more prone to lashing out against their socieities.

I write this, of course, because today was somewhat unique* in that there were two mass shootings in one day, one in Seattle, one in Indianapolis.

Indianapolis: http://news.yahoo.com/ind-man-shoots-4-1-fatally-shooting-self-005150905.html

*I know it already happened once this year, there was a mass shooting in Georgia and Pennsylvania on the same day, if my memory serves me correct.

I guess that would mean that men with famlies can lash out against the family instead of society?

It means that masses of men without families provide for an unstable social structure, is what I was trying to say.

Then about half the population (of men anyways- do single women act out as well?) must be psycho. Article from 2010:
http://articles.cnn.com/2010-08-19/living/single.in.america_1_single-fathers-single-mothers-single-parents?_s=PM:LIVING

There are 96 million people in the United States who have no spouse. That means 43 percent of all Americans over the age of 18 are single, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

"Single" is defined as adults who have never been married, are divorced or are widowed in the bureau's America's Families and Living Arrangements survey of 2009.

Of the singletons, 61 percent of them have never said "I do." Twenty-four percent are divorced and 15 percent are widowed.

An increasing number of these single Americans -- more than 31 million -- are living alone, according to the census. They make up 27 percent of all households, up from 17 percent in 1970.

About 46 percent of all households nationwide are maintained by a single person. That adds up to 52 million singles.

"singlehood" has been rising for years yet at the same time, crime rates have been falling:

Preliminary FBI figures reveal that the levels of both violent crime and property crime in the U.S. declined in 2010 from the previous year's data.

The 2010 Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report, just released today, shows a 5.5 percent decrease in the number of reported violent crimes when compared with data from 2009. It also shows a 2.8 percent decline in reported property crimes.

This latest report is based on information submitted to the FBI from 13,007 law enforcement agencies around the country. The crimes covered are murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.

Well I'm 38, single, never married, no kids, and it's not by choice. At least I haven't gone out and shot up a 7-11.

mass shootings are only down if you actually believe what the FBI states...lol...and....you do not count Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Pakistan, etc

we need more cops, right AF?

it was rather interesting watching the local news on this latest mass murder. An older gentleman was asked how he was coping with these murders in his neighborhood...his comment?....''i carry a pistol'' end of interview.

The only possible way to best that response is "I carry a rifle/shotgun."

I was wondering about an analysis on those areas as well.

I believe it's also why they leave divorced men w/ 25% of their kids, by default...instead of just completely stripping access.
