Santorum endorses “worst Republican in the country” who “frightens me”

If he had any credibility left after all of his own statism and hypocrisy, Santorum just pulled the ultimate flip-flop: he endorsed Romney after having once said “Pick any other Republican in the country. He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.’’
Even after he ended his own campaign, en-route Santorum fliers hit mailboxes in Iowa bearing the message, “It truly frightens me to think what’ll happen if Mitt Romney is the nominee,” and saying the Republican Party would be “crippled” in the event.
Apparently Santorum now wants the worst, frightening, crippled party going forward, because he just endorsed that candidate.
Sheepishly.
The endorsement came buried in the 13th paragraph of a 16 paragraph email sent out after most of his supporters’ bedtime, 11 pm.
Santorum defended the tepid endorsement on Jay Leno last night:
“I think we just needed some time,” he said. “You know it was a rough and tumble campaign. I can’t say it would have been an easy thing the next day to turn around and say let’s just go forward. It would have been tough.”
Leno noted that Santorum’s endorsement was “kind of buried” in the 13th paragraph of the email.
“No, no, no. That’s not — I laid out, sort of, the case and just said ‘here’s sort of what we went through. Here’s the discussion. Here’s why I decided to do it,” said Santorum.
