I came to America from Germany during my senior year of high school (Army brat). My education in Germany was pretty top notch, so you can imagine my shock and dismay when on my first day, when not a single student in US history class could identify Thomas Jefferson in a portrait. My teacher hung her head in shame. I was shocked and I looked at my class and yelled, "It's Thomas Jefferson!"
