This is a rather surprising interview with Charlie Webster for anyone who is familiar with his past. Did Ron Paul supporters convert him or is he just trying to save face and his job?

This was sent a few days before the Maine Convention to all Delegates:

Link: http://bit.ly/K19T6w

To: State Convention Delegates and Alternates

From: Charlie Webster

Several weeks ago I attended a meeting at the Party Headquarters with a representative from the Ron Paul campaign.

At that meeting I was informed that the Ron Paul campaign intends to "take over" the Republican State Convention and Republican State Committee.

It appears that such an effort will be attempted.

It is my opinion that, in my role as Party Chairman, my obligation is to welcome every Republican activist to our Convention, and to guarantee that all voices are heard.

All of us should welcome the supporters of Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Mitt Romney.

These activists are critical to the election of our candidates in the 2012 elections.

As attendees of our convention, I write to inform you of this situation and to remind you of the importance of attending the Convention beginning with the election of the Convention Secretary when we convene at 9 a.m. ( We recommend that you arrive at 8:15, at the latest to collect your Delegate/Alternate credentials )

The very first business on Saturday will be the election of the Convention Secretary and Convention Chairman.

This would be the first opportunity for anyone to "take over" the Convention by electing " their " Convention Chairman.

The County caucuses will be held at 4 o'clock and this matter of business would be another opportunity to "take over" the State Committee.

I regret the necessity of writing this message, but unfortunately there are those among us who would choose to divide us rather than unite us. Individuals who seem to believe that the overall good of the Party may not be as important as their candidate and their own personal political opinions.

Thanks for reading this message, see you at the Convention. 8:15 a.m. on Saturday

He's being political like he always has.
First he was against us because he thought he would get some love from Romney and others. Now he realizes he needs us, so he tries to make amends.
The guy has no principles whatsoever. It's all about him and his career.

Charlie tries to appoint a chairman of the Convention without a vote: http://bit.ly/IHqgUD

Judge Cragin Invited to Chair

Maine GOP Convention

(Augusta, ME) Charles L. Cragin of Raymond, Maine, the former Chief Judge of the U.S. Board of Veterans' Appeals, has been invited to preside at the Maine Republican State Convention being held in Augusta on May 5-6. "We are pleased and honored that Judge Cragin has agreed to serve as Chairman of the convention", said Charles W. Webster, Chairman of the Maine Republican Party. "Judge Cragin has a reputation for fairness, objectivity and integrity. He presided at several Maine GOP conventions prior to going to the Board of Veterans' Appeals in Washington and we are delighted to have him serve in that capacity once again", Webster added.

Cragin, who now chairs a government relations and public affairs consortium, served as Chief Judge and Chairman of the Board of Veterans' Appeals from 1990 until 1997 when he left the Department of Veterans Affairs and became the Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs at the Department of Defense. During his five-year tenure at the Pentagon, Cragin served in a number of senior positions including Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel & Readiness. In 2008 Judge Cragin chaired the Gulf War Veterans Advisory Committee of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

A graduate of the University of Maine and its School of Law, Mr. Cragin practiced law with the Portland, Maine firm of Verrill & Dana until he entered federal service in 1990. Following retirement from federal service in 2001, Mr. Cragin became a partner in the Washington, DC office of Blank Rome, LLP. In 2003 he joined System Planning Corporation (SPC) of Arlington, VA as its Senior Vice President for National Intelligence, Security and Response. He continues to serve as Senior Advisor to SPC.

I am thinking he may be a ok but just got used by the establishment and he had no idea what was coming his way. He is probably not the most morally consistent guy and he got used by the national republicans. He realizes now there is no stopping us.

Amazing how quickly they change their tune when they figure out who their rulers are...

Still better late than never, at least he's not saying the opposite right now.

Charlie Webster said running overtime in the Maine Convention would cost $12,000 in the interview....

Augusta Civic Center incurs $300 bill in overtime for GOP convention
http://bangordailynews.com/2012/05/09/politics/augusta-civic-center-incurs-300-bill-in-overtime-for-gop-convention/

AUGUSTA, Maine — It turns out the Maine GOP didn’t run up a huge tab from the Augusta Civic Center for keeping the lights on after the convention ran late.

GOP Chairman Charlie Webster warned Ron Paul activists who took over the weekend convention that the civic center agreement called for wrapping up by 6 p.m. Sunday. Instead, the convention continued at least two hours beyond that before breaking up.

Civic Center Director Dana Colwill said Wednesday that the bill will be $300 or less for overtime for workers who stayed to the end.

The convention was a messy affair with repeated delays as Paul supporters and Mitt Romney supporters argued over rules of order. Some party members passed the hat to collect donations to pay the civic center.

I'm thinking this has something to do with the fact that Ron not only got the delegates, his supporters now fill the State committee which votes in, and out, the chair. And maybe he looked at Iowa and Alaska.
