View Full Version : Tuesday's Battles

We have three battles coming up tuesday.

1. Indiana. Indiana is one of the more unusual states in that some delegates are bound and some are unbound. There are 46 total available. 3 are the super delegates, 27 are CDs elected in conjunction with primary votes. They are winner take all by congressional district and are BOUND for 1 round of voting at National. There are alsok, however, 16 AL delegates chosen at state convention. These 16 are all unbound. There is a huge opportunity for Ron in Indiana. Go Hoosiers!

2. North Carolina. North Carolina has a total of 55 delegates available. 3 super delegates, 39 CDs and 13 AL. north Carolina is also unusual in that some of their conventions have taken place before the primary vote. I hope someone can update this for me, as I'm unsure of current numbers. All delegates are bound for first round and are proportionally awarded according to what I found, although I'm questioning that in light of recent events (particularly this weekend :) GO CAROLINA!

3. West Virginia. West Virginia has 31 total delegates. 3 Super, 9 CD and 19 AL. This is another weird process. The delegates are elected. They may choose to run "committed to" a specific candidate. If they do, they are bound to that candidate at National until released. (seriously) They may also run uncommitted. I found nothing clarifying whether they are bound or not. Can someone help? Go West Virigina. (Y'all are my neighbors I'm in PA).

So. We had a FABULOUS weekend for Liberty. Let's continue this trend, ride the mo and KICK SOME ROMNEY ASS Tuesday :) :) :)

Good luck all.

Yes, North Carolina has already settled who 39 delegates are. (6 for Paul and 33 for Romney, I think, based on scuttlebutt here and Daily Paul.) Assuming that is correct, a result of 6 / 52 or 11.53% in the primary secures these people to vote as they pledged.

Every 1.92% beyond that, is another delegate we earn at the state convention to round out the at-large slate.

May is going to be a busy month. There are a lot of races that will be decided. Be sure to know your candidates!

(Note: this list is just US Congress. There are a lot of other fine candidates at the State level.)

WV is kinda of an odd process. I know I, as a state worker am not allowed to be a delegate because of that. The last time I tried anyway, but this time I had the feeling the party would be checking that list and I didn't want to jeopordize Ron losing a potential delegate. Anywho I've been trying to rally the troops to get out and vote Tuesday.

kathy,

WV checking in here. (edit: looks like Rich beat me!)

I'm one of the At-Large candidates. Like you said and as far as I know (:D), those delegates who are elected and "committed" to someone stay committed until they are released by the national campaigns. I made a website that describes our process: http://www.wv4ronpaul.com

I will try and dig up the WV GOP rules for this year that describe the process here in WV in more detail, but I think it's as simple as you described. I'm pretty sure I have those files on another computer that I can get to tomorrow. Now I'm definitely not a party-insider here in WV, so I can't count out any funny business....

I'm very excited to see how our primary goes. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no weak or strong about how it will go....it's really going to be a wait-and-see kind of result. Excitement for the "national scene" here seems pretty non-existent (except for us Paul-ites of course!)...a lot of people will be at the polls for the local stuff, but I'm not sure how many people understand our delegate process. Over in the eastern panhandle, there's a very solid group of Paul folks that have put in a lot of work. I look there for some good outcomes.

We did a small sign wave here in Morgantown today....feedback was mostly very positive. So, we'll see!!

I will keep you guys updated with any news.

Oh Bill, thank you for chiming in. Any idea if the "uncommitted" delegates get bound by the popular vote either proportionally or winner take all?

As promised (thanks to my friend Steph):
http://phillipsbillboard.com/media/Resolution%20%20Rules%20for%20Selection%20of%20WV% 20Delegates%20to%20the%20GOP%20Natl%20Conv.pdf

Uncommitted/No-candidate-preferring delegates should be selected the same way. How they determine their vote at the convention.....

As far as I know, our popular presidential vote is 100% non-binding...a true beauty contest. So, I hope our message of explicitly voting for delegates has got out there enough!!

The Mourdock / Lugar senatoral battle will make national news if Lugar falls.

I heard them talking about this on the Patriot channel on Sirius today. Sounds like Lugar needs to fall. 81 years old, in office since 1980s. Moved to Washington years ago and just keeps a PO Box in Indiana. That's the kind of career politician we can certainly do without. How is his opponent on Liberty issues?

Plus Mourdock looks like Joe Pesci in that pic. LOL.

So...according to The Green Papers it appears that all of the candidates aside from Ron Paul have more people on the ballot than they need. Since delegate candidates are being directly elected it would appear that such a thing would split and dilute their vote.

Excellent!

Ron Paul's savvy supporters of course have the exact amount of people running that can be elected, so our vote should not be split.

In Indiana it would appear we'd need to win 3 CDs and sweep the state convention's unbound delegates in order to secure a majority. Does anyone "in the know" think that CD wins in Indiana is feasible?

Also, are all of the delegates in Indiana elected at the state convention (though some may be bound by CD primary wins, of course)?

About Indiana, isn't it an OPEN primary? Meaning anyone can vote, not just Republicans?

Nice site Mountaineer although you may not want to sign your first name for your posts. If you could get an official slate for each district and put it on your site, that would help against the fake slate debacle going around.

No need for a slate. Site explains why.
