On Sunday, thousands in Texas gathered for a Tea Party Express rally. This rally featured Ron Paul, his son and Senator Rand Paul, Tea Party Express chair Amy Kremer, and Texas Republican candidate for U. S. Senate, Ted Cruz. Many expressed relief to see a Tea Party organization not rushing to support Mitt Romney.

Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton said “One day this rally will occupy a special place in our history books when the Paul family and tea party are credited with restoring American government to its constitutional limits. How soon this recognition comes is up to voters”.

nice~! Thank you Angel! I have to say I was watching delegates roll in, and didn't really follow what was happening in Austin. Looks like it was a win, though!

Um, when you say Ron has most recently won delegates in.... you might want to mention Ron won 23 delegates in Maine it wasn't actually a slate, because so many were by CD.

So is the tea party express group backing Ron from this point forward or is this a one time thing?

If the Tea Party supports Romney they are uber hypocrites. On the other hand their support could alienate some.

I just want to point this out. Texas delegates NEED to get along with the Tea Party come convention. DO NOT unseat the current chair. If everything goes as expected, the convention should be relatively peaceful. The only problem would be if there is an attempt for another "fake ballot" like in Nevada.

every single time we don't unseat the chair they use it to attack us. Now if it is actually and truly a tea party chair, that might be different.

So far the Ron Paul folks and the establishment types have worked side by side. There have been a few small clashes, but overall it hasn't been anything like other states. We had a very good Senate District Chairman and he wasn't a Ron Paul supporter. In fact most of the non-Ron Paul folks are great. There are a few that hate us. Most just want us to stick around and keep helping the party. I have no problem with keeping the Chair as long as he is fair and upholds the rules.

Ronald Reagan once said, "The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally — not a 20 percent traitor."

Texas' normal process has been completely disrupted this year due to litigation over redistricting (surely the Obama administration would not want to disrupt the republican party presidential preference process  )

Normally, we have a primary followed by precinct caucuses on primary night where delegates and resolutions are put forward to county/district conventions. The county and district conventions then send delegates and resolutions to the state convention where national delegates are chosen.

BUT THIS YEAR, our primary is not until May 29. The state convention was set a couple of years ago for June 7-9 in Fort Worth. And with 9000 delegates plus alternates, guests, etc. you just can't change that on a whim (and yes, everything is bigger in Texas including our political conventions :P). So, we had open county and state senate district conventions on 2 Saturdays April (except that some counties opted to have precinct conventions too, usually the morning of the same day as the afternoon SD convention). This means that all of the state convention delegates, proposed resolutions, and temporary committee members have already been selected even though the primary has yet to happen.

Personally, I have extremely serious concerns about the integrity of our upcoming primary and consider it unlikely that the election will be certified before the state convention closes. I fully expect that the state convention will need to adopt emergency rules on the binding of delegates because of this situation. It will probably be as pretty as the world's ugliest dog competition photo shoot.

Still, I am optimistic about our chances; I've never met a Texan Romney fan. I think wherever he is, he's hiding out with the chupacabra.

can someone tell me how texas votes? is it a primary? i know its not a caucus? but why is texas voting so complicated? it fkn sucks that texas is rons home state, and he has been polling so bad in that state.... we really need texas badly and we shouldnt even have to worry about that state at all!!! its RONS HOME STATE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! IT DRIVES ME FKN CRAZY!!! we all laughed at mitt because ron won the delegates in mitts backyard, but recent polls it looks like what goes around comes around, and i hate being negative it kills me, but im just calling it how i see it. WE NEED TEXAS TO RALLY BEHIND RON!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE IF THERE IS A GOD.... PLEASE GIVE THE STATE OF TEXAS TO RON!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is Tea Party. What's really surprising is that the neo-conservatives are starting to accept him. To tell you the truth, he's done an excellent job pulling the Texas GOP out of debt and battling for the party during the redistricting. He also included Paul for the Texas debates we were supposed to have (even though Romney didn't accept).

Interesting fact about the Texas capitol building. It is higher than the US capitol and is made of pink granite (looks white at night).

What they are doing is to infiltrate and cause a riff between the campaigners and the Ron Paul supporters as instructed by their career-management-lobbyist-loyal to GOP-neocons in order to create diversions. disinformation and stealing of delegates positions off from Ron Paul to be handed over to Romney....(some loyal to Tea Party Express members are naive enough to believe the change of direction but in fact are being tooled because the administration rules over the grassroots)

I don't see how he could have failed to include Ron.
