Drug War: Two Men Die After Cops Fire On Them
Two men died early Saturday after police officers fired weapons in two separate incidents involving drugs, according to the state police and the mayor.
One man was killed by a bullet, and the other died after being hit by a stun gun.
Mayor Michael Rohde said Saturday that Police Chief Jeffry Cossette told him the officers followed the proper procedures in unfortunate situations.
"There was a serious threat of danger to both the officers and other individuals," Rohde said.
In one incident, officers responding to a call at a home at 10 Maple Branch in Meriden at 2:38 a.m. faced a man who charged at them with scissors, state police said. Neighbors said the man — identified as Angel Cajigas — was frantically preaching about religion while holding rosary beads.
The officers tried to retreat and one officer fired his department-issued stun gun, state police said. The suspect continued to threaten officers and one then fatally shot the suspect with his gun, state police said.
