Throngs of loyal supporters brave the rain to support the long-shot Republican candidate for president.

PHILADELPHIA — Susan Connelly, a stay-at-home-mom, stood away from the crowds, guarding her baby's stroller with a "Legalize the Constitution Ron Paul" poster propped against it as her husband took their 15-month-old daughter out of the rain for a bit.

Connelly, who chose "Liberty" for her daughter's middle name, said her little girl will pull Ron Paul's book off their shelf at home and coo "Paul, Paul." Until Paul came along, Connelly said, she thought she was forced to choose between two political parties, neither of which she ever fully agreed with.

"If [Mitt] Romney gets [to be] president, it's going to be the same," said the Eddystone, Delaware County resident, who had the hood of her raincoat pulled over her head. "[Barack] Obama didn't end any of Bush's policies and Romney won't change any of Obama's policies. They just keep making the executive branch bigger and bigger and bigger until eventually we'll have a tyranny."

Supporters of Paul, the 76-year-old Republican presidential candidate, are intensely loyal. Although he's a Republican, he's treated by his fans like a third-party alternative. Despite his age and his years in Washington — he's been a Texas congressman off and on since 1976 — he's inspired young, anti-establishment voters to get involved in politics and join what they refer to as the "Ron Paul Revolution."

They turned out in droves on Sunday afternoon despite the chill and steady rain, clutching signs and umbrellas, filling the mall next to the Liberty Bell and across the road from Independence Hall to hear Paul speak before Pennsylvania's Tuesday primary.

I was there, great crowd - the article understates the weather - it was a full blown nor'easter - cold with driving rain. No other candidate would have drawn any kind of crowd in all of that.
