The top recipient of Pocono political donations isn't a candidate, but a political action committee that hopes to affect the outcome of elections and legislation impacting the pharmaceutical industry.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate to garner the most money from Monroe County donors — Republican U.S. Rep. Ron Paul — trails in the polls and is widely considered to be out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is the odds-on favorite to win Tuesday's Pennsylvania presidential primary and ultimately the Republican nomination.
The contribution breakdowns are the results of a Pocono Record ZIP code search of federal campaign contributors on the website of the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks giving.
Money flows to Paul
Among presidential candidates, Ron Paul drew the most Monroe County support with $9,933, followed by $6,600 for President Barack Obama's re-election bid, $2,500 for Republican Herman Cain, $2,000 for presumed Republican nominee Mitt Romney and $1,700 for former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, who recently suspended his campaign.
Casey, seeking re-election to the Senate, received $10,000 directly from individual Monroe County donations, followed by $5,250 for Barletta and $2,400 each for U.S. Rep. Marcho Rubio, R-Fla., and John Boehner, the Republican House speaker from Ohio.
The Rubio, Cain and Boehner donations came from John Haddon of Stroudsburg, who also donated to Prosperity PAC, affiliated with U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis.
Haddon's $14,800 in political giving was tops among all Monroe County donors.
