Remember to turn out for your NC district conventions! Feel free to use this thread to organize or share successes or whatever regarding NC conventions starting this weekend. Let's send some delegates to Tampa for Dr. Paul!

Keep on your toes everyone!

(eta: Removed portion of original post. No shenanigans surfaced at our convention. I suspect state will be a different story however.)

Quick word from the 9th district, before I go eat lunch. It went as planned, 1 Paul delegate, 2 Romney. We had decent turnout of bodies, probably 1/4 or so of the room.

Dang you beat me to it!

We did pretty well winning ours considering we were still heavily outnumbered. The party is pretty decent to us around here and no obvious games being played.

Any other NC district conventions reports?

I think 6th district concluded a week ago and I have not heard anything from there. We know 8th was today, since the state candidates hightailed it from ours, after introducing themselves.

For all the discussion about slating, treachery, etc in the other states, our convention went smoothly and with little drama. About the only thing in play was the 9th district chairman race and the vote on presidential elector.

My impression is that some political maturity developed on both sides since 2008. The party elders realize it's not worth trying to squash Paulites at EVERY juncture. There were two strong pro-Paul people elected to the state Executive committee today. Out of eighteen or so people it's not a major concession, but enough to keep us in line as part of a power-sharing arrangement.

Likewise I think we are learning when to pick our battles. People kept their mouths shut through all the Sue Myrick kumbuyah, and did not introduce any "radical" resolutions to discuss. We wanted our delegate elected, and that was the focus. Getting 1 of 3 delegates, in an area where Dr Paul has spent nothing on campaigning, was a good enough result.

I posted this in the NC sub-forum, but real quick, we took 1 Paul delegate and 2 Paul alternates from the 11th District. As an added plus, there was only one Presidential candidate that had any signs out--Ron Paul--and the place was covered with them!

Edit: Our convention took place last Saturday. And 1/3 delegates, 2/3 alternates. Oh, and the 1 Paul delegate we did take was also the top vote getter of ALL the delegates and alternates.

How many total delegates went from there? (how many out of how many did we get)

N.C. elects 3 delegates from each of the 13 districts, so 39 are set before the primary takes place. After the primary, another (13 I think) are elected at the state convention, along with 1 national committeeman, and 1 national committeewoman. I think the state chairman is a remaining national voting delegate.

13th district is also concluded according to this post
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?372044-Just-got-back-from-the-CD-13-Convention
with no delegates, and with 1 alternate.

So as it stands the "news" from 3 district conventions (11th, 9th, 13th) is a total of 2 delegates and 3 alternates.

so 2 of 9? Is that correct?

That is confirmable, yes. We need someone from the sixth to tell us what happened. And from the 8th and the 2nd which also concluded today.

18 delegates will be allocated by this afternoon... whomever they plan to vote for...

2 of 9 in NOrth Carolina is nothing to sneeze at.

Im not complaining and we still have state left to get some more. I just hope we get full turnout for the state convention. A few of ours didn't show up today. Fortunately it didn't matter but every vote counts at these stages.

it does indeed!

How don't they show up? It boggles me. In PA we were told NOT to run as delegates, they had been chosen. If they are lucky enough to get the votes to go directly to National and don't show up I will go fucking postal.

So what's the case with North Carolina and its district conventions? How did we do in the delegates?

MozoVote
04-21-2012, 03:56 PM
Yeah. Glen Bradley would be a delegate if we'd just had 2 more people show in the 13th.

defe07: By the end of April we'll know who 39 of the delegates are. The remainder is decided at state convention.

We won't have any more votes in Tampa on the first ballot, than the proportion of the vote in the N.C. primary. This is a matter of state election law. For example if Paul gets 9% of the vote, and we have 6 delegates already, it's possible someone would be asked to "walk back" his pledge and vote for a different candidate. 9% of 55 total delegates is only 5 people.

Unoffically, Paul took 2 delegates in the 6th.

That... uh... sounds like how the sixth handled things in 2008. But it was one unofficial delegate then, if I recall.

Still need to hear from the 8th. The meetup group only showed 6 people attending that convention so I don't hold very high hopes but maybe we'll be surprised.

No primary yet in NC right?

PPP had a tweet about NC yesterday I think.

So we have 4 out of 12 so far right..

2 from CD6
1 from CD9
1 from CD11
0 from CD13

Still waiting on CD8's results. Not bad guys ;)

PS: Seems to me if we put more effort in this state we could get a decent number of delegates.

I'm assuming those 2 in the sixth are stealth delegates. They won't count for Paul without a contested convention taking place and the subsequent balloting. So, 2 official.... 4 unofficial out of 12 known delegates. Stealths could be helpful on platform or resolutions votes though.

It may sound like small beer here, but keep in mind that in 2008, Paul only got 1 official delegate out of the districts.

Why are you assuming the 2 in 6th are Stealth?

NCGOPer_For_Paul said it was unofficial. He's well connected to the core grassroots grapevine.

All of NC's delegates are bound by the primary vote, their personal preference only comes into play if there is a second round of voting at the RNC.

I attended the 6th as a guest- we got 2 out of the 3 delegates, and 1 alternate. I am attending my district convention tomorrow (April 24th) I am in the 12th. We have worked hard to organize our group, and I'm optimistic. Our chair required us to submit resumes that she will be handing out to the delegates that attend. We also need to give a 2 minute speech at the convention. I'll let you know the results.
