I think they were one of the first websites to break some important stories.

They were the first to break the Lewinsky scandal story, online or offline. Aside from that, I don't know why they're so popular now.

It gets a ton of traffic and many newsrooms across the country look to his site for stories to cover.

The site has been around for about 10 years and has not really changed at all in that time.

Yes, but the important bit is what stories he links. To my knowledge, it's still Matt Drudge sifting through the news and finding the stories that titillate him.

Millions read Drudge every day so a good article mention about RP goes a long way to reaching a major audience.
