How can we verify these are really ancient texts? Do we have to just trust them? I don't trust them to not alter them or just plain make up texts that they don't even have possession of to "rewrite" history as they see fit.

It's the internet. You have to judge the sources yourself.

I am pretty sure there is nothing in there about "Who killed Kennedy's"... so why do you yanks even care?

that's pretty dismissive. We're as interested in history as anyone.

And history says some of their popes were pretty Machiavellian. So to speak. The records might not all be pure, even with the best attempts to keep them so, in modern times.

Thanks for that acala. Anyone recall reading that Tolkien's books were directly inspired by the special access he had at Oxford?I don't remember what link I watched/read that. Didn't bookmark it.
