Edges out Obama while Romney, suffering from Obama’s enthusiasm gap, at best ties Obama

LAKE JACKSON, Texas, Apr 12, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul again polls better against President Barack Obama in a head-to-head matchup than establishment-choice moderate Mitt Romney, according to a poll released today from Rasmussen.

The poll notes that in a general election matchup, the 12-term Congressman from Texas edges out Obama by 1 percentage point, 44 to 43 percent. The survey also notes that in a hypothetical 2012 head-to-head, Obama and Romney are tied at 45 percent, which bodes poorly for Republicans being urged to believe the race is over, only to later experience buyer’s remorse.

The poll also finds that this far into Obama’s first term, 40 percent of voters respond that they “strongly disapprove” and 27 percent “strongly approve” of his performance. With a Presidential Approval Index of -13 points, it is noteworthy that some Republicans are seemingly settling on a candidate no more popular than the President, suggesting an establishment liberal Democrat is no more popular than a establishment liberal Republican. The Rasmussen poll may be prescient in showing a general election scenario of confusion among voters over which candidate has the least liberal record.

“Now that other candidates presenting themselves as the ‘conservative’ alternative to Mitt Romney have stepped aside, the numbers are clear. Ron Paul is the only conservative able to garner the enthusiasm, resources, and votes required to win in November. Voters perceive the contrast, and are ready to elect the candidate who will end the status quo and Restore America Now,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

Rasmussen’s daily tracking results are collected from 1,500 Likely Voters and have a +/- 3 percentage point error margin. To view the poll release online, click here.

Yeah the even funnier thing is that Drudge put up some stupid poll results yesterday done by Faux News that say R****y beats Obama in head to head.

So needless to say, I drudged this wallstreet journal story too.

Fox's was taken over a longer period, including when Santa was in the mix. They use the same pollster as Rasmussen so.... Santa's people who were partisan to him and refusing to vote for Ron 'in a general' to show their guy polled better might have switched to Ron. We'll see.

The rasmussen article linked on the campaign's page does not even mention Ron Paul. Did the campaign link to the wrong url? This isn't good. Some 28k people have "liked" this article, and it isn't corraborated.

And what is being to promote this stuff? What has been done so far to counter Ron's biggest stumbling block - "electability"; it's simple, most voters just won't vote for a guy who's been tagged as "unelectable", while very little has been done to shed this image

Polls like these & many others need to be brought to the attention of the general voting public, to show that Ron Paul has appeal across the political spectrum from Republicans to Independents to Democrats & that's why Ron Paul is the MOST ELECTABLE candidate against Obama!

If anyone is able to find, please post. The detractors will undoubtedly challenge the source.

This is something that I post constantly. We even beat Obama when it comes to support from Indys and young voters. Cant win without these two groups, period.

Has anyone else noticed RCP no longer has a Paul vs Obama link on the page.

They are completely shutting him out and hiding any info.

It is still there but not unless you google for the link.

I wonder if Rasmussen will continue to poll Paul vs Obama ?

they are hiding it because Ron polls so well against Obama. They want the primary to be over and the two identical candidates to be the only choices. As Nancy Pelosi said "Elections shouldn't make that big a difference!"

I wonder if Rasmussen will continue to poll Paul vs Obama ? After Ron beat Romney's performance? I looked for that poll on the Rasmussen site and they seem to have deleted it the next day and put the daily over it.

True but how much have we done to shed the "unelectable" meme? How much have we done yet to prove that Ron IS electable & he CAN beat Obama; we MUST start doing this ASAP, remember, "electability" is the ONLY reason Romney has been leading so if we offer people a CONSERVATIVE option that IS ELECTABLE then people will jump ship, most dislike Romney as well; just look at how Santorum mlked the anti-OBAMNEY vote, we need to do exactly that, be the anti-OBAMNEY candidate by establishing Ron's superior electability!

I'm glad this thread popped up again. When people say RP cost the GOP the general election it is good to remind them that Romney was never electable.

The GOP threw the election by nominating Romney.
