I've been reading a bunch of books about police brutality lately, and noticing a trend that I am starting to find a little disturbing. So often, they focus on the politics of race to the exclusion of almost anything else. Certainly black people are disproportionately victims of police brutality, and I don't think there is any reasonable way to deny that, but I'm concerned that white people reading these books without sufficient background may end up coming to the conclusion that this is "not their problem" or worse, that they are not welcome in the fight against police brutality. What are some good ways to convince people that this isn't exclusively a "race problem," it is everyone's problem?

For my middle aged parents, my father's trip to jail worked an amazing amount of magic.

Yeah, I was gonna say, having it happen to them is probably a guarantee.
