Possession of pot is technically not illegal in the US on the federal level.
They criminalized it at a time when they actually had to pay lip service to the constitution.
So the way they did it is put a federal tax on it, and made it so anyone in possession of pot without a tax stamp goes to the rape cage.
And, as usual, the tax stamp is nigh impossible to attain.

Thus, the involvement of the IRS.

because they haven't added an "M" to BATFE yet.

because they haven't added an "M" to BATFE yet.

But BATFEM would decrease their status even more. Real agencies have 3 letters: FBI, EPA, DEA, ICE, HHS, DOD, DOT, FAA

Second rate agencies have 4 letters: FEMA, FERC,

5 letter agencies are real losers.....

To comb through your records and and make up things that you owe them money for.

End result: An ass load of cash and some time in prison as a reminder to everyone else not to rise up.

some time in prison as a reminder to everyone else not to rise up.

Why is the IRS involved in medical marijuana raids?

Ask Al Capone.

That would ruin their motto anagram: BE FAT

The actual reason for direct IRS involvement is a political one. Obama promised not to raid medical mj facilities that were complying with state law. However, he added the exception for allegations of tax evasion, so the IRS involvement is how the feds can bust mj facilities without breaking Obama's "pledge".

I know on the show weed wars on discovery channel, the IRS hit harborside dispensary with a Section 280E of the federal tax code.
It explicitly bans any tax deductions related to "trafficking in controlled substances."

Basically it made it so every business expense they have ever written off, they now owe taxes on.
For harborside the bill was about $2million.

Here is a random link to the story, but if you really care, watch weed wars on the discovery channel:

This.

Many states do the same, not only do try make possession illegal, they make it so you have to pay taxes on all sales so they can get you for tax evasion as well
