Lenny Curry, the Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida and a friend of mine released a statement yesterday (http://www.buzzfeed.com/zekejmiller/florida-gop-chairman-to-republican-candidates-eno) calling for an end to its bruising primary, telling BuzzFeed that the process has gone on too long and calling on the national party to coalesce behind Mitt Romney.

I have challenged him via his facebook wall (http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=286164128127139&id=511543506&notif_t=share_reply) where he claimed "The math is in".

Feel free to weigh in...

Tell Lenny to take a hike. I didn't even get a chance to vote yet, my state's primary isn't until 4/24. It's pretty pathetic how they need to force Romney down our throats because half the Republican voters don't want him.

facebook isn't letting me play ball right now but I wonder what "facts" and "numbers" Mr. Curry is referencing?
The polls from the general don't look good for a romney v obama match, romney excites the base less than mccain did and even if he got 100% of the base out and voting for him the gop is still outnumbered by both the democrats and independents.

If the main goal of selecting a nominee is to defeat obama then one must be selected who can draw strongly from beyond the gop fold, and among the four remaining contenders that's Ron Paul. Mr. Curry mentions that facts are stubborn things, well the facts are that the gop ranks third among the three components of the general electorate and you don't secure a majority of votes (even in an electoral system) when most of your votes come from part of the smallest contingent voting.

ps ~ by the math the nominating process is not even 50% complete as of this time, is the 'anointed "frontrunner"' really so weak that he's damaged goods after only half a nominating process?

someone elses response to a similar situation:

The "math" isnt it but the agenda sure is.

What does it say about the GOP if they are giving us Mitt Romney? That they dont want any real change.

Time for Len Curry to face the reality about his own Party and Washington politics.

NOBP.

Dick Morris opines just the opposit. Anyone of candidates except Dr. Paul can beat Obama.
If anyone can still post in that thread please remind Mr. Davis that Dick Morris also opines this

no true patriot could be for Ron Paul.
Which the combat veterans here strenuously objected to.

The "math" isnt it but the agenda sure is.

What does it say about the GOP if they are giving us Mitt Romney? That they dont want any real change.
And then there's this, too:

In a move that shows Republicans are coalescing around the party's front-runner, Mitt Romney plans to begin raising money jointly with the Republican National Committee this week as both the candidate and the GOP brace for an expensive general-election fight against President Barack Obama.

The arrangement will allow top donors to write checks as large as $75,000 per person, by giving to party organizations in addition to the campaign. That's far more than the $2,500 ceiling that applies to individual donations to a presidential candidate for the fall election….

...Acknowledging that the nomination fight isn't over, the RNC also invited other candidates to participate in joint fundraising, but with little expectation they would agree, RNC officials said. A spokesman for Newt Gingrich said he didn't plan to work alongside the RNC. Rick Santorum's campaign said they had no plans to join forces, but "would be happy to raise money with the RNC." Ron Paul's campaign declined comment. It makes little sense for challengers scrapping for cash in the primaries to ask donors to give large sums to the party, GOP operatives said....

i'd drag my balls across 100 feet of broken glass just for the opportunity to be able to vote for someone other than Romney or Obama. They could show me numbers showing that every other person in the US wants Romney, it'll never be 100%, because i'll never vote for the hack.

Also this idea that Mitt cannot beat Obama is unfounded. Many polls say otherwise including the Obama camp.

I am pretty opposed to spamming people's facebook pages. I hope people keep any comments civil and thoughtful or people may not take away the conclusion they are hoping for.

Yeah well we all know how polls can be, especially how effective they are at giving you the storyline that you are aiming for. I'll bet you $1000 USD right now, if Romney wins the nomination, Obama will stomp a mudhole in his ass in the general. The entire establishment machine will be brought down on Romney's head, he is the Republican fall guy this election year.

I won't go again into what I think of polls and why I'll just post these numbers.
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2012/04/dems-winning-on-enthusiasm.html
with the additional comment that willard who has consistently polled a net negative in favorably among Indy voters would have to "win Indys big" in PPP's words to have any ability to capture the election this fall.
In 2012 not only do Dems comprise a larger share of the general electorate than the GOP but they are on balance more excited by their candidate/the idea of voting so they're likely to turn out at a higher percentage rate than the GOP.

Nothings impossible in politics, I grant that, but Willard Mittington Romney is DOA if he passes to the general election.
