Displays such as this add to the reasons why Congress has a pathetic approval rating. The fact that this story has progressed to become a talked about issue in the federal legislative body is appalling to me. I think this man should be more outraged about the fact that Leon Panetta can waltz in and tell him that you and your fellow colleges have no authority to declare war and the US now receives the authority from the UN. Ceremonial is really an accurate word to describe what our Congress has become.

You're right. If it was up to me, I'd censure the guy - take his congressional pay for six months and let him know he can be a circus clown on his own time.

Political theater. And congressman Rush won that round. If he had simply been ignored his speech would have likely been forgotten.

This is what defined Trayvon? His clothes?

This is amazingly shallow.

Yea it did get him in the headlines.

If that's the new play in Congress to make a point, perhaps next time he could show up in traditional Afghan male dress to stand with fathers of children killed in drone bombings or recent massacre under Obama's command. That would be one memorable speech that even Obama's political masters won't be able to keep from becoming news and may help bring troops home sooner.

I think this is an outrage. Regardless of whether this SHOULD be an issue, this man was censored based on what he was wearing. Wearing clothing can be speech. No one should be censored for a political message they are trying to send.

It really blew up when G. Rivera told black and latino parents that they shouldn't let their kids go out wearing hoodies and that the hoodie was the real culprit.

WTF is up with this stupid media distraction!? I don't give a damn about a stupid "gangsta" who robs women's jewelry. If you ask me, the case should have been handled better, but this is completely blown out of proportion to the point it's nothing more than political theater and distraction!

Investigate the case, throw Treyvon Martin in jail if his force was unjustified, and get it freaking over with! This is like that Casey Anthony bullcrap all over again! Seriously! Just get this story over with, and tell us what's really happening in the world than this overblown fiasco!

You're thinking of some other time. In present, Obama apparently can assassinate US citizens for their expression of free speech.
This is a new freedom era.

Obama Campaign Bars Muslim Women In Headscarves From Being Photographed With Obama

June 18, 2008

Two Muslim women at Barack Obama’s rally in Detroit Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

Only rule , I care about enforcing on the hill is the Constitution , she is a violater of Article One , Section Eight . to a degree beyond most , put her in the stockade where she belongs ....

So nice of him to further taint a prospective jury pool while attempting to play off people's emotions in order to further his career. Expect less from a Chicago democrat?

Why?

What law did he violate?

Is there an "anti- Hoodie" rule in Congress.

Yeah, the guy was posturing.

If they censured every congressman who did that, we'd have no Congress.

Isn't the role of a congreeman to represent his constituents? This guy has been elected for 20 years in the most heavily African American district in the country.

Maybe his constituents want a voice?

["Hoodie" breaks Congressional decorum, Democrat ordered off House floor

You can't wear hats in the house/well. They consider the hoodie a hat. According to the rules of decorum and civility in the House of Representatives, members are required to dress appropriately when they are in the chamber, meaning a coat and tie for the men, no hats or overcoats, and appropriate business attire for the women. I've seen some females on the floor that were far from wearing business attire. Boehner has been on the record a few times already warning house members of their attire not being accordance with rules.

Hoodies and sunglasses are a no-no, CONGRESS mist give the impression of being professional, though most Ron Pail Forum members know most of CONgress are racketeering criminals.

Color Over Principle

http://singlenessofpurpose.com/uncategorized/color-over-principle/

Not exactly but almost exactly, I transcribed remarks made by “Representative” Bobby Rush (D-IL) on C-SPAN, pursuant to Blogojevich’s arrest for brazen corruption.

”I am astounded, stunned and appalled. I’m in pain because once again it seems as though the CEO of a state has fallen victim to greed and gross malfeasance in office. People have been dealt a terrible blow.

They are entitled to look to the CEO of a state to try to help them deliver themselves from the pain of this economic downturn, this recession that we’re all going through. So I really am pained as are all the people of Illinois.

I am committed, as I have been, to a long term principle that whosever selects the replacement for President Elect Barack Obama, that that person chooses an African American.

In the midst of this hubbub and indeed hysteria, that principle is still cogent for me and rises up even out of the controversy that whoever chooses the next senator from the state of Illinois that that person indeed chooses an African American.

We do not currently have any African Americans in the senate. There are three or four Hispanics, two or three Asians, a number of women, but there are no African Americans in the Senate. And I think that is shameful that we don’t have an African American in the senate, so I have been for the three weeks, two weeks as a matter of fact, leading a petition drive trying to petition Governor Blogojevich to appoint an African American to replace Obama.

I am currently now assembling a team of lawyers to ascertain what is the legal avenue, what are the legal options in order to ensure that, one, we have quickly a decision to replace President Elect’s seat and, two, that we can have the best and most favorable way to position ourselves to make sure that that person is an African American.

We are studying the issues around a special election but it is my feeling that a special election would probably put MY community at a disadvantage in that we would be hard pressed to come up with the money and the mechanism to elect an African American in the next two to three months. [See Obama’s campaign surplus.] And I believe that the process, that the mechanism for a special election will have to take place no later than April because the people of the state of Illinois deserve to have another U.S. senator.

But I’m again personally, I feel in pain that this Governor had no limits that he was bound by. It seems to me that in his mind, anything goes.

And he’s been a friend of mine, but until I read the actual conversations and his reported comments, I never really believed that he just had very little restraints and restrictions on what he would and would not do.”

Bobby Rush…who stands firmly if not clearly on the point that it is an African American’s “turn” for a senate seat…answered the first reporter’s question thusly, at which point I had to turn off the television.

“I have been trying to operate based on a principle rather than on a personality.”

Coulda fooled me. Based on the flimsy evidence of his own words, I’da said that “representative” Bobby Rush operates very much on the basis of Race.

He should be recalled from office at the earliest opportunity.

And someone needs to quit pussy footing around just cuz our president-elect is black. Someone needs to roll up their sleeves and get to the bottom of WHY, until his arrest, pond scum Rod Blogojevich continued to enjoy a substantially higher favorability ranking among BLACK Illinois voters than among ALL Illinois voters.

Yes , to a point , he is a Constitution stomper , he swore an oath to uphold . He has no right to violate "Shall not be infringed" . He has no right to violate Article One , Section Eight , not that I would accuse him of ever having read it ....He usually gets 70 to 80 percent of the vote , in his district , maybe 40 some percent pay some Federal tax . As an elected Congressmen , he also must uphold the rule of Law for the 20 percent who pay Fed taxes to fund his crap who are not smart enough to realize , he does not represent them and the twenty to thirty percent who vote against him , he does not do this.
