Your thoughts?

In 2010, U.S. troops in Helmand province said they paid $1,500-$2,000 for a death and $600-$1,500 for a serious injury.

Guess it pays more if the killing becomes one of international notoriety.

Considering all the multi-million dollar awards the US courts award to someone who gets injured or dies, $50,000 is nothing. The pain and suffering of losing a loved one is the same whether it happens in the US or Afghanistan.

Considering the average Afghani wage is $400 (+/-) a year. $50,000 would be the equivalent of a multi-million award. However, what is the price of a life? To those that one loves no amount would be enough.

Not to mention, the Afghani's are a very simple people, and are not dazzled by money and wealth.

Under letters of marque we should have put a one billion dollar bounty on Bin Laden's head in the beginning and he would have been dead inside of a week. Just think of the money and lives that could have been saved.

Just get the hell out of Afghanistan

... and everywhere else! If we close all of the overseas bases and reopen the ones which have been closed down here, we would be pouring in money from local military. This is exactly what Dr. Paul said we should do.

In Soviet Amerika, government pays your killer.

They pay the families there.

Here, the cop gets, along with paid vacation, a $500 "decompression benefit".

Along with his Combat Qual

Britain should be ashamed

The price of a life? In Afghanistan, it's as little as $265

KABUL (REUTERS) - In Afghanistan, if Nato forces kill a member of your family, it is better in terms of money if he or she comes from from Germany or Italy than the United States or Britain.

In the cold calculation of how much to pay for victims of the decade-old war, British forces have doled out as little as US$210 (S$265), while German forces have paid as much as US$25,000, according to a study by the human rights NGO CIVIC.

Civilian casualties caused by Nato forces hunting insurgents are a major source of friction between the Afghan government and its Western backers - all the more so after a lone United States (US) soldier gunned down 16 Afghan villagers at the weekend.

Simple with some very hardcoded traditions. Will not be surprised if Afghan massacre eventualy led to fall of Obama regime and his masters being sent to prison.

Pashtunwali: Badal

My gut instinct is that a lot of Americans will be killed in response to this massacre. (No brainer on that.) This is more serious than first glance. The Pashtun people (that area is Pashtun) have a sort of code of conduct that is very strong. Earlier in the war, in a different part of Afghanistan, a small SEAL team was wiped out. SEAL Marcus Luttrell was taken in and protected based on the "Nanawatai" (like asylum but a bit more complex) part of Pashtunwali. Another part of Pashtunwali is "Badal." Revenge. This ain't your average revenge. The unborn great grandson from the victim's family (he might be born 10 or 20 years from now) is still apt to grow up with this story and seek revenge. He will not have to kill the actual murderer, but a male in his family. (Preferably close relative.) In Afghanistan, this translates into killing Americans. Again, it's a no-brainer on one level, but the badal aspect of Pashtunwali is serious stuff.

That is a sobering point and I fear you may be right.

Apparently payoffs for death and injury are commonly done in that part of the world which is why the US has been doing it. What was shocking to me was that $14 million has been spent for this purpose so far in both of the worlds. They said that the military leaders are given unallocated "slush funds" they can use for this (or other) purposes.

They payed off the families of the victims of Raymond Davis (CIA/Blackwater). Sharia saved his sorry ass.
