If you want to have influence in your County GOP, you need to be a voting member of the County GOP. Many County GOPs are organized by precincts and each precinct is allowed to have at least one representative, usually called a Precinct Committeeman (PC).

In many states, to become a PC, all you need to do is file as a candidate and win an election. Winning an election may sound hard but probably half of PC positions do not have any candidates running. This means that just by filing, you will have a good chance of being the only candidate in your precinct, which means you win by default.

PCs make up the voting members of a County GOP and get to elect the County GOP leadership (Chairman, Vice Chairman, State Committeeman, etc.). If we ever want to have significant influence in the GOP, we need our supporters to be in these positions.

Every state has its own rules on how to become a voting member within your County GOP. Listed below are information for SOME states. It is very time consuming to find info for each state so do not take this as an exhaustive list. If your state is not listed, please look into how you can become a voting member and post the information here.

Some of the posted information for Oregon is incorrect.

•You must have been a registered Republican since November 17, 2011.

This is true only for candidates shown on the ballot. It does not apply to write-in candidates. Even for those listed on the ballot, the registration deadline does not apply to anyone whose 18th birthday falls within the period of 180 days of the primary election on May 15,2012. Many precinct committeeperson positions are open without a candidate listed on the ballot, and it can be easy to win as a write-in, with a minimum of three votes (including your own vote for yourself)! Open positions not filled by election of listed or write-in candidates get filled by appointment by the party.

Per O.R.S. 249.046, "The requirement that the candidate be qualified by length of membership does not apply to anyone whose 18th birthday falls within the period of 180 days or to a write-in candidate."

•Each precinct is allowed one Precinct Committee Person.

Actually, per O.R.S. 248.015:

...At the primary election a major political party shall elect from its members a committeeperson of each sex for every 500 electors, or major fraction thereof, who are registered in the precinct on January 31 of the year of the primary election. In any event the political party members of a precinct shall be entitled to elect not less than one committeeperson of each sex in the precinct..."

So as an example in my very rural precinct of about 2800 total voters (not just Republicans, at that), there are 6 positions for male PCP and an additional 6 female positions. Only two males have filed to appear on the ballot, so I will be running as a write-in (having missed the registration deadline, my bad). I also hope to recruit other Ron Paul supporters to run as write-ins for the other open slots.

In Oregon, the PCPs are the members of the county central committee and vote for the officers, and, most importantly, vote at the Congressional District convention for delegates to the National Convention.

This worked for us. Ron Paul owned our county delegate process with 75%. Boulder County, CO.

The entire county GOP is leaning liberty.

The Precinct Committeeman position is a very powerful position that anyone can obtain. It requires very little time commitment and you will have the ability to influence the leadership in your county.

In most counties, the County GOP Chairman is elected by the County GOP's Precinct Committeemen. If enough Ron Paul supporters become PCs, we will be able to elect Ron Paul supported Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, etc.

We have seen the establishment in Georgia, Missouri, Colorado, etc. do their best to keep our supporters out of the caucus/convention process. The only way we can fight back is to take over their positions and becoming a Precinct Committeeman is the ONLY way to do it.

Mississippi - After precinct election, delegates go to county and nominate the County GOP Executive committee (delegates can be on the committee, as can observers, and even people not present) 13-36 members. After the co. delegate election is adjourned, the County Executive Committee meets. The first order of the day is for the members to elect President, Vice-president and other officers, who serve 4 year terms. It's VERY easy to get on the Executive Committee in most counties.

If we want to take over the local GOPs, we NEED our supporters to become Precinct Committeemen.

I don't know how to stress this more than I can. If anyone can help explain the importance, please do because we can just keep complaining about the establishment not playing by the rules in all the county conventions or we can just become the establishment. It's as easy as filing ONE simple form. If enough of our supporters within a county become PCs, we will be able to elect county leadership who support Ron Paul and will conduct fair conventions.

Role of Precinct Delegates in Michigan:

What other functions do Delegates have?

After Election Day, precinct delegates have another responsibility. Late in the year and early the following year precinct delegates will convene in the district or county conventions to elect executive committees and officers to serve through the following election. There they will also elect delegates to the February state convention where new state party officers and a new state central committee will be chosen to serve through the next two years.

In Michigan, all you need to do is file ONE form and you can impact the GOP on a local level. This is the easiest way to make a significant impact in the GOP. We need to elect liberty minded individuals to leadership positions within the GOP and this is the only way to do so.

The above info is specific to Michigan but it is similar in all other states.

Filing period is open for Arizona, Michigan, Texas and Washington.

If we want to take over the GOP, we need to do it by taking over the County GOPs.

Also, in some states like Arizona, Michigan, and Washington, you must be a Precinct Committee Person in order to be a delegate at the conventions.
