I don't see why candidates and Presidents can't fund security through their election/party funds.

SS screw up? Reassigned to the next President. Private security screws up? Good luck finding better work in the future.

It is pretty messed up we have to subsidize protection for politicians running multi-million dollar campaigns who have not even been nominated for anything.

Also, although we obviously see this writer's bias, its still worthwhile to note that the writer completely missed the point. RP didn't say anything about secret service protection for the President, although Presidential examples were the only ones given to support the writer's case. RP only referred to secret service protection for GOP candidates.

Ya, the author got it wrong.

I noted in the comments that it seems the reason why most people don't like Ron Paul is because the media consistently and often times purposefully misconstrues his positions.
