and on this thought:

would it be wise to begin arguing that a Paul presidency would actually
strengthen the (fiat) dollar, regardless of the gold standard thing (of course,
if you're not an ideologue you can always spin, 'do you think he'll really get
a gold standard past congress'... buh, derrrrr)...

Here's the thing about the current international banking/regulated currency
paradigm:

The value of a nation's money is based (yes on supply and demand, too many
pieces of currency and people want it less), but the big factor that the
vaule of that currency is based upon is relative political stability.

Thank about it, if the situation on the ground is calm here in the U.S., but
shaky somewhere else, where would a rationally thinking (non-compulsive
gambling) investor put their money?

In return, which money will they then be trading in?

That currency representing the nation w/ the most relative political
stability (obedience of the people to the "authorities").

Now, the argument for Ron Paul here is two-fold

1) Political Stability
With a Paul presidency this air of impending doom
would be gone (whether the military industrial complex
sicked their attack goons on us again or not), the incessant
paranoia (on the part of more than you even want to admit)
would be gone, the systemic loathing for the state and present
authorities would be gone.

2) Less Interference = More Obedience
If there are fewer regulations on the thoughts, actions, and
associations of the individual; as far as the government needs
to concern itself, people will be obeying. Things that belong
in the courts (like liquid, solid, and vapor assaults on your person... the environment)
will be in the courts, and this nearly century long dispute over
what i perceive (and RP perceives) to be a very simple, easily
resolved issue would be cleared up (literally and figuratively).

Once more, more political stability. If we resolve these current issues,
clear the air of discourse, is it not reasonable to assume that that in
itself would have profound effects on the state of the dollar (even
as the "dollar" is presently defined)?

edit: P.S. Not to mention all those who choose to minimize
their participation in the economy due to the near futility
of the task.

European central banks making similar noises. That's funny. They debase their own currencies to shore up the dollar.

but it's all relative. if the pound goes down and the euro eventually goes down against the dollar, we win... even if we're still going down also.

'cuz somebody has to buy all the junk.

yea, but if all currency is debased they can just add another zero, nothing lost nothing gained (except your savings).

tomorrow we're right back where we were today.

are we being driven to a single international currency? three currencies? what do you think derdy?

are you the religious sort, do you see this playing into prophesy?

one way or the other, just wondering, keeping the thread going.

Bush is just plain too stupid to have any real grasp of economics or the teetering American dollar.
