A teenager has been arrested for allegedly making comments on Facebook about the deaths of six British soldiers in Afghanistan last week.

According to Sky News, Azhar Ahmed of Ravensthorpe (19) posted comments on his profile page, criticizing the level of attention British soldiers who died in a bomb blast received, compared to that received by Afghan civilians killed in the war.
He was arrested on Friday and charged over the weekend.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "He didn't make his point very well and that is why he has landed himself in bother."

Ahmed has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence and will appear at Dewsbury Magistrates Court on 20 March 2011.

The soldiers were killed on March 6 in the deadliest single attack on British forces in Afghanistan since 2001 when their Warrior armoured vehicle was blown up by a massive improvised explosive device (IED).

The deaths take the number of UK troops who have died since the Afghanistan campaign began in 2001 to 404.
It seems you have to be careful if you have an opinion on Facebook these days.

Freedom of speech is alive and well in the UK...

Twitter user faces jail over airport threat (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/twitter-user-faces-jail-over-airport-threat-1905133.html)

A man who posted a "joke" message on Twitter threatening to blow an airport "sky high" has been warned by a court that he could be sent to prison.

Paul Chambers, 26, pleaded guilty at Doncaster magistrates' court yesterday to sending the "menacing" message about Robin Hood Airport, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on 6 January.

The case, which was first highlighted by The Independent, is thought to be the first time that a UK citizen has been arrested and charged for comments that they posted on Twitter.

Chambers, of Balby, Doncaster, posted the message on the micro-blogging site after snow forced the airport to close. He was due to fly out from the airport to Ireland more than a week later.

He was arrested on suspicion of communicating a bomb hoax and later charged with sending, by means of a public electronic communications network, a message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.

Yesterday, the court heard that the message read: "Crap! Robin Hood Airport is closed. You've got a week and a bit to get your shit together otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!"

Does the UK even have any guarantee of free speech? I don't know so I'm asking. If not, then sucks for that dude. They need a little revolution across the pond.

Soldiers are more important than politicians. But what will be the punishment for this youngster?

Warning and let him go.

I read about a man who was about to miss his flight so he gave a phone call about a bomb on his flight. Do not rememeber whether he got the flight and what was his punishment because he had to deal with the police.

People do crazy things many times. It is all Obama's fault.
