Not a surprise to me since Im from that area and probably not a surprise to those paying attention to the exploding size of the federal government but this really paints a picture of where taxpayer money is going.

So what part of DC or the area around it is the ghetto that i keep hearing about?

And about the poorest - i went on a trip to a city in South Dakota and it was an Indian reservation that was said to be the poorest city in the country. That is where I decided that I don't care at all about most poor people and many of the native americans. We go there and pull up crap filled (literally) carpet out of a pre-school and the next day we come back to finish the job and the pre-school has writing painted all over. Things like "White devil," "Rot in Hell whitey," and "Leave!"

Then later we go to some people's house and pull hundreds of staples out of their roof where they were hanging christmas lights, then painted some of the house. It cost maybe $20-30 in supplies and they could have easily afforded that (how would they have gotten christmas lights in the first place, and the money to buy the staples)? And on these people's property there was a little shed that someone was living in. He needed a new roof so we installed a new roof. He seemed genuinely happy and thankful that we did it, but i realized that he is nothing more than a drunk who spends all of his money on alcohol and prostitutes after he had us look at the inside of his home. Not to mention that one of the girls I was with overheard one of the people in the area talking about raping one of them. It is truly pathetic and I have no respect for dirty poor people anymore. I see the same thing in the poor neighborhoods in my area. The houses are just trash pit after trash pit after trash pit.

My great Grandmother used to say "Being poor doesn't mean you have to be dirty" and I wholeheartedly agree. These people would be much happier if they weren't so lazy.

They're inside DC - and some places in MD as well.
The terrible places in Virginia are better than some of the better DC slums.
As I'm fond of pointing out, I think it might have to do with the fact that if you try to rape or rob someone in Virginia, you're somewhat likely to get your face filled with lead.

A friend of mine was a construction inspector when the HQ for the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Geospatial-Intelligence_Agency) was being built.
It has some kind of crazy experimental membrane roof that he had to take classes to learn to inspect.
Also, at least one of the offices in this building has a private bathroom... not a restroom, a bathroom. With a whirlpool tub.

So yeah, waste.
