Gallup: Unemployment Jumps 0.5 Percent in February

Washington Free Beacon
March 8, 2012

Gallup calculates that unemployment rose by 0.5 percent during the month of February, the largest month-to-month increase since December 2010.

U.S. unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, increased to 9.1% in February from 8.6% in January and 8.5% in December.

The 0.5-percentage-point increase in February compared with January is the largest such month-to-month change Gallup has recorded in its not-seasonally adjusted measure since December 2010, when the rate rose 0.8 points to 9.6% from 8.8% in November. A year ago, Gallup recorded a February increase of 0.4 percentage points, to 10.3% from 9.9% in January 2011.

Gallup tracks daily the percentage of U.S. adults in the workforce, ages 18 and older, who are underemployed, unemployed, and employed full-time for an employer, without seasonal adjustment. "Underemployed" respondents are employed part time, but want to work full time, or they are unemployed. "Unemployed" respondents are those within the underemployed group who are not employed, even for one hour a week, but are available and looking for work. Respondents "Employed Full Time for an Employer" are those who are employed by an employer for at least 30 hours per week. Daily results reflect 30-day rolling averages based on telephone interviews with approximately 30,000 adults. Because results are not seasonally adjusted, they are not directly comparable to numbers reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which are based on workers 16 and older. Margin of error is ± 1 percentage point.

Might be more accurate if we add about 20% to those statistics. Other stats say something like only 65% of people able to work (so kids and seniors are excluded) are actually working. By that toll, -1% for the filthy rich, so real unemployment is at about 34%?

The government's numbers will say otherwise. We're in a recovery folks! Atleast that's what Obama is telling me  .

Perhaps if you include even those who choose not to work for whatever reason. Civilian labor force participation rate for those 16 and over is about 64%. http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS11300000
