Did Libya reimburse us the $1 billion we spent over there?

I'm in a debate on facebook over Libya, I said it cost us $1 billion we don't have. The other person said Libya paid us back the $1 billion so it didn't cost us any money in the end.

Is this true? I never heard anything about this. And if it is true, what can be my rebuttal?

The war we basically got paid back for was the first Gulf War with Iraq under GW Bush. The "coalition partners" (led by Saudi Arabia) paid us for most of the costs on that one. I think that war was why his son thought he could go and take out Sadam quickly and cheaply too. Unfortunately the son was not quite as intelligent as the father was.

Well all of Gadhafi assets were frozen and probably by now stolen.As far as I know he even had shares in the biggest banks in the USA worth over 8 billion dollars
