We have had a great new influx of people into the campaign and I assume some have come to the forums. So, I thought now would be a good time to do another poll. We all know they only count people who voted in the last Presidential primary when doing polls, or are likely to vote Rep. in this election. How they determine that is beyond me.

So, I thought I would ask who is here? Who are we all?

I only had so many space so forgive me if I left people out. All of these questions are pertaining to the last Presidential election.

I never have been interested in Presidential elections till this one. I mean why vote for a douche or a turd sandwich? But now that we have RP, there's a reason to go vote.

I guess I don't have anything for people who voted in both the primary and the main election. Sorry, only room for ten categories. You can pick more than one category though.

I vote for whoever I think is best, regardless of ability "to win." Usually this has meant that I vote for Libertarian candidates, however I did vote for GWB in 2000, mainly because I really didn't want to see a continuation of the Clinton era, but it's a decision I really regret.

I didn't repeat the mistake in 2004, I voted for Badnarik.

I was a registered Republican in 2004 and voted for Bush. At the time, I was pissed at him for a lot of things, but still supported the war and was afraid Kerry would be an "internationalist" (that is, the UN calls the shots).

Needless to say, I've changed my views on the war (but not "internationalism") and have long since come to regret not abstaining or voting Libertarian/write-in. It finally hit me, oddly enough, after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, when it seemed like the government was making a competition out of incompetence, finger-pointing, and outright lying.

I changed my registration to independent and sat out 2006 in protest of the GOP having abandoned every last one of its principles.

Now, Ron Paul has given me a glimmer of hope for the party and the country. If he doesn't get the nomination, I will not be voting Republican (or Democrat), but I might stay with the party to try and change it from the inside. They'll probably need me when they go down in flames.

Wow, these results are amazing. I knew that some of us hadn't voted in the last rep. primary, but I had no idea how many!

Libertarians don't have a primary so you can eliminate that option.

LOL!!! Throwing in some South Park references, classic. But it is totally true, Kerry/Bush in 04'.....the eptiome of a Giant Douche and Turd sandwich. Hopefully Matt and Trey can throw their support this way and maybe even throw Ronnie in one of their episodes.

Nice poll, some interesting results. I honestly thought there would be more dems represented. There's a poll on dailykos between hillary ron paul and guiliani, paul is like 20 votes behind hillary(out of 400 votes), and that on a partisan democrat web site.

Yeah, but a few people voted in the last primary as a Libertarian. I think some states had races.

Please folks, the more we get to fill this thing out the more the results will mean something.

Wasnt old enough to vote in the last presidential election

I think that's probably very common among many of RP's supporters ergo I don't think the conclusion can be drawn, at least from this poll, that RP is drawing people out of their homes to vote who have chosen to abstain in the past.

I voted Constitution Party in 2004. The last time I participated in the Minnesota Republican Caucus was in 2000 when I showed up to cast a protest vote for Keyes...even though I knew I'd be voting Buchanan in the general election.

New Citizen :D First time voting in a Presidential Election, I'm SO glad Ron Paul is running. I want to see people believe in the American dream again, I want to see the country be the way it was meant to be, not the way it's heading. GO Ron Paul!!

I have never voted in my life as I felt the system was corrupt and rigged since before I turned 18. Now a shinning light has illuminated the darkness and I see hope for the first time. We can finally have a president that is as good as I thought they were from when I was a kid.

Voted in 2004 priimary as a registered Republican.

So, it appears only 14% of RP supporters are actually being counted in the major polls. I thought the number would be closer to 25%. That's a pretty significant difference. Now, it obviously doesn't mean you can multiply his poll numbers by seven, as I'm sure the other candidates also have supporters that aren't in the 2004 Repub. primary voter demographic. But I bet you could double or triple his percentage.

This poll shows that the "hidden" support for Ron Paul is much greater than any other candidate. Among people who did not vote in the 2004 Repub. primary .... how many of them will really vote in the primary for a Republican candidate other than Ron Paul?

Democrats .... not many. Some might come out for Giuliani, if they don't like Hillary
Republicans .... not many. If they did not vote in the 2004 primaries, they will just expect Giuliani to win the nomination
Libertarians .... probably none
Non-voters .... Some may come out to support Huckabee, Fred, etc., very few would mobilize themselves for "front runner" Giuliani

No one has 4-fold, 5-fold, maybe 7-fold support that is hidden from the polls.

We need people to sign up to be delegates!

If my memory serves me correctly, I was not old enough to vote in the primaries, but voted in the pres. election.

I know that when I registered I didn't put any party, but I voted for Duh-bya. (I was young and if I could go back I would have voted 3rd party)

Given the 04 GOP primary was not contested, the next question is how many people showed up for any GOP primary, especially 2000, as I think that may be used as a screen for "likely" voters under certain polling methdologies.

Separately, to compare on an apples-apples basis, who did everyone vote for in the 2004 general? Presumably, the folks that replied as 2004 GOP and Dem primary voters voted overwhelmingly for Bush and Kerry, respectively.

My own recent history:

2000 primary: Bush
2000 general: Bush
2004 primary: no vote
2004 general: badnarik

Hopefully, I am in a small minority for 2004 - in order to generate big numbers, we need our support to be mostly from Bush, Kerry and Did Not Vote people in the 2004 general election.
