Obama should of just put on a cowboy hat and got out his revolver and gone yee haa!:D LOL That came to mind when he said 'Indian country'.

Any thoughts on this?

Any thoughts on this? I seriously doubt Obama has spent much time in " Indian Country " in the US.

To quote a Native American friend of mine;

What is "The Land Of The Free & The Home Of The Brave" ?

To quote a Native American friend of mine; Well , depending on what people he came from , they likely were very brave and fought back.

The Navajo Nation

A profound statement, IMO.

Yep, even more so if you are familiar with the Navajo.

Yep, even more so if you are familiar with the Navajo.Knowing a bit about history ... I was dumbfounded when he asked that.
We've had some great discussions over the years, and I have learned much due his perspective on life.

ETA:
Obama will never understand, and I only grasp at what has been revealed through his perspective.

Oklahoma really should of been the land of the Natives, as that is where many were pushed off to.

The Texan president Mirabeau Lamar saw the Cherokee as having the ferociousity of Hyenas and tigers. He was elected in October 1838 and was there up until 1841. He did more damage in Texas with his anti native policy, but in truth some wanted to align with Mexico to destroy the Texan state.

Some history on the place.

The Americans(Mose's Austin and the three hundred families) arrived before Mexican independence. Phillip Nolan was the first person to map out Texas back in 1800, he got into a fire fight with his associates against the Spanish as they saw his expeditions as interference. A lot of foreigners at the time were just exploring the region, unauthorized military expeditions which were not allowed if they were clearly seen to be taking place. Philip was killed in early 1801. He was Irish.

And the visionary President Lamar, he had some good ideas for Texas, he even thought Texas was destined to reach the Pacific coast. Its just too bad he didn't think much of the Natives unlike his predecessor. When Houston got re-elected in 1841 it was too late, they had been pushed out of Texas by the Autumn of 1839. Lamar was the only Texan to oppose annexation to the US. He was better in vision for Texas, but Houston was better than him on morality. As for David Burnet, the first president, interim leader, a bureaucrat and corrupt. He led the government from March 1836 till October under the constitution based of the massachusetts of 1780. This meant that Houston was re-elected after Lamar as Lamar's opposition candidates commited suicide. Burnet doesn't get remembered for much as he was useless and the cabinet didn't like him, though he was Lamar's vice president. Lamar did create a central bank..Texas was bankrupt much more than Houston or Burnet could have. The maintaining of a militia and eventually a cemented army.

Chief Bowles, the Cherokee leader met a grisley fate, the Texan military pursued his tribe and their associates right into a forest, and then open field over a day. The chief was then shot and mutilated, one soldier keeping some of his scalp as a restrainer or something. The war took place in East Texas, near or in Anderson county. The rest of the tribes scatter beyond the North border of what was Texas at the time.

The US, Belgium and the Netherlands recognised the Texas republic, but not the UK. There is a plaque located here in London, in St James Street, in the alley of the Berry wine shop.

Here are a few snapshots I took last year of it.

As one Native said in 1814, he would of killed Jackson if he knew he would go against his word a quarter of a century later. But the trail of tears happened a lot earlier when the tribes moved to Texas in 1819.
