View Full Version : Punk Rock: A Libertarian Movement?

I've been wondering if punk rock (Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash, Black Flag) is actually a libertarian movement. Other than some anarchistic views, many just want government out of their business and equality for all. Though, I may be completely off here just hoping that my favorite bands agree with me hahaha.

Note: Johnny Ramone believes that "Punk is right wing".

Most were anarchists.

On the Dead Kennedys- Jello Biafra went to the same high school I did (a couple years older than me). Saw them in a small club of about 100. Sex Pistols flamed out before I even heard of them but did catch the Clash.

Ah you lucky bastard! Well, Dimebag Darrell of Pantera went to my high school about 20 years before I did. I'd rather have Jello though. But I do believe that, at heart, many were uneducated libertarians

Nah they're more Democratic Socialists. They do have pretty good views on things like war and police brutality though.

Punk is probably what ultimately lead me to the liberty movement. Listening to punk growing up encouraged me to question what the government was saying etc. This is why I think I was open to Ron Paul.

A lot of the bands would be libertarians if they were consistent.
