The NJ GOP just sent out an email:

MEMORANDUM

TO: Friends & Supporters of the New Jersey Republican State Committee
FROM: National Committeeman Bill Palatucci
SUBJECT: 2012 Republican National Convention

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Republican National Convention will convene in Tampa Bay, FL from Monday, August 27, 2012 to Thursday, August 30, 2012. During this time Governor Chris Christie and the New Jersey delegation will join with Republicans from across the country to nominate a candidate who can defeat President Barack Obama.

The New Jersey Republican State Committee is pleased to announce that it will offer convention delegates, alternates, and honorary delegates the opportunity to share in the 2012 Delegate Experience for $300.00 per person (plus transportation and hotel accommodations). Benefits may include:

Receptions honoring Governor Chris Christie, First Lady Mary Pat Christie, Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, and other New Jersey Republican Leaders
Official 2012 New Jersey Delegation badge
Commemorative delegate memorabilia
Access to events offered to the New Jersey Delegation
Daily delegate briefings from the New Jersey Republican Party

We also would like to invite you to be a convention sponsor by either hosting an event for the New Jersey delegation or donating certain goods and services required for the operation of convention activities, like transportation and office supplies. Sponsored events may include receptions, breakfasts, and off-site activities.

Those interested in either attending this year’s Republican National Convention as an honorary delegate or becoming a sponsor, should contact Loren Monk at 609-989-7300 or loren@njgop.org for additional information and updates.

I hope you can join me and Governor Christie as part of this year’s delegation in Tampa at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

Can someone clarify the significance of this? It seems like they're suggesting that this is only to become an honorary delegate. Do honorary delegates partake in the voting? What's the difference between a delegate, alternate, and an honorary delegate?

I think this is getting you access to events with the NJ Republican Party at the convention. The Honorary Delegate would just hold title because the person is attending and getting access to briefings and meeting with Governor Christie and getting the memorabilia.

A delegate is the actual person who casts the vote at the convention, the Alternate is the person who takes the delegates place if they can not attend for any reason. The honorary is you paid $300 to go and attend functions at the convention. I am trying to find out more but that is how I am reading it.
