Did anyone see the debate last night where Santorum claimed he would cut the budget by 5 trillion over 5 years? He said he would make real cuts not decreases in the increases. I'm trying to figure out how he's going to cut 5 trillion from our current budget of 3.6 trillion. That would be a -1.4 trillion budget. I'm surprised nobody called him out on that.

And I don't buy it for a second, the guy has never put in a spending cut bill in his entire career, why start now?

So does this mean he's going to cut $100 trillion over the next 100 years? yeah...

I knew Santorum was a closet anarchist. This means there will be no government. We will actually get some cash back.

Then he went on to say he wasn't going to touch defense spending, block grants for medicare (that not a cut either), and didn't mention SS.

Sick Santorum isn't cutting anything.

I would love to those details.

Over the next 5 years, govt is planning to spend about 20T. He claims he will only spend about 15T. But when in those five years and how? Never heard him say...

Besides, when has the government predicted anything correctly 5 years out? LOL can't trust him.

If you elect me president I will cut 10 trillion dollars from our debt over the next 2 years AND I will make sure that every little girl receives a unicorn!

You have my vote, but how can you cut so much and still carry on with these entitlement programs?

Sexist! I want my unicorn too! I could never support a candidate who harbors such blatant gender bias. There is literally nothing going on in America which is more important to me than this!

He specifically said he wasn't using baseline budgeting... which means he expects to have a negative budget by the end of the first term. Rofl.

He would cut $5 trillion by going to war with Iran

Let us see how the numbers would come out. Here are figures for 2010- he isn't going to touch SS or Medicaid so I will skip the "mandatory" spending portion. Santorum would have to cut $1 trillion from this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_United_States_federal_budget

Discretionary spending: $1.378 trillion (+13.8%)

$663.7 billion (+12.7%)– Department of Defense (including Overseas Contingency Operations)
$78.7 billion (−1.7%) – Department of Health and Human Services
$72.5 billion (+2.8%) – Department of Transportation
$52.5 billion (+10.3%) – Department of Veterans Affairs
$51.7 billion (+40.9%) – Department of State and Other International Programs
$47.5 billion (+18.5%) – Department of Housing and Urban Development
$46.7 billion (+12.8%) – Department of Education
$42.7 billion (+1.2%) – Department of Homeland Security
$26.3 billion (−0.4%) – Department of Energy
$26.0 billion (+8.8%) – Department of Agriculture
$23.9 billion (−6.3%) – Department of Justice
$18.7 billion (+5.1%) – National Aeronautics and Space Administration
$13.8 billion (+48.4%) – Department of Commerce
$13.3 billion (+4.7%) – Department of Labor
$13.3 billion (+4.7%) – Department of the Treasury
$12.0 billion (+6.2%) – Department of the Interior
$10.5 billion (+34.6%) – Environmental Protection Agency
$9.7 billion (+10.2%) – Social Security Administration
$7.0 billion (+1.4%) – National Science Foundation
$5.1 billion (−3.8%) – Corps of Engineers
$5.0 billion (+100%-NA) – National Infrastructure Bank
$1.1 billion (+22.2%) – Corporation for National and Community Service
$0.7 billion (0.0%) – Small Business Administration
$0.6 billion (−14.3%) – General Services Administration
$0 billion (−100%-NA) – Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP)
$0 billion (−100%-NA) – Financial stabilization efforts
$11 billion (+275%-NA) – Potential disaster costs
$19.8 billion (+3.7%) – Other Agencies
$105 billion – Other

Now if we also don't cut the DOD then you are left with $0.662 trillion from which to cut $1 trillion.

Makes it hard to decide who to vote for- Newt promising us $2 gasoline or Santorum cutting some parts of the budget by 140%? They are all telling the truth, right?

It's simple: 1st year cut $1, 2nd year cut $2, 3rd year cut $3, 4th year cut $4 (that's $10 so far!)
...and in the 5th year, the NEXT POTUS can cut the remaining $4,999,999,999,990.00
