I think this is just going to further put the idea in people's heads that Ron cozy's up to the gay crowd, not the best thing in a Rep primary, the idea this will put out there is that Ron approves of gay marriage, I know it doesn't technically say that, but that is what the weaker minded will get out of it.

How so? The sheriff is saying "Leave it up to the states". The gay marriage movement wants to federalize the issue because they know there are a lot of states where they simply can't win. California voters overturned gay marriage and a federal court reinstated it.
