Let us create the freeest state in the nation. Let us all run for office in a particular state. What is to stop us from doing this on a micro level? If Paul does not win can this be done?

What is the most libertarian state?

I'd say Wyoming, because the population is so low that we could take over the General Assembly pretty easily. However most everyone else is going to say New Hampshire where we'll basically be stuck on the population treadmill going nowhere. Montana's government is closer to us than Wyo, but they are suffering a California influx, and it will be pretty difficult to overcome that. If we are serious about taking over the State party and the State gov, Wyo is where it's at. If it happens I'll be heading west to help. Chances are it won't though. I pushed Free State Wyo for years and it went nowhere. :(

Based on population alone, I'd do Wyoming or Vermont.

Too cold for me, but go for it.

Wyoming is landlocked which creates a dependency on our existing overlords... Wyoming may be easier to get started in, but is probably not the best long term solution.

And NH is f*#$*() cold.

Landlocked maybe, but it's encroached by the Lakota Nation with passage into Canada or at least near the Great Lakes. If the balloon goes up, the Lakota will be allies of our sort, and enemies of the bad guys, you can bet on it.

As long as we're over their airspace, we have to follow their rules. :/

Were doing a great job at creating a liberty state within minds. No physical state is needed.

I'd say Wyoming, because the population is so low that we could take over the General Assembly pretty easily.

The problem with Wyoming is that 22% (the highest in the nation) are federal employees.

That's because most of them work in Yellowstone. Plus, that's the sort of thing that the Free Market changes for the better. ;)

Well, if anything really gets started, let me know! I hate the cold, but if I can have liberty it'll be worth it. :)

Overall, NH is warmer than WY or at least as warm. MT is even less free than WY, colder has more people, a worse tax system and so on, so it is a horrible choice. VT is about as cold as MT and colder than both WY and NH.

If you want to run for office as a pro-liberty person, New Hampshire is by far your best bet. I am pretty sure no one here would disagree with that.

As for the most libertarian state. You will likely find some disagreement on that. In my experience, people in the East are most likely to say NH. People in the West may say anything from AK to NV to SD to WY. Heck, someone might even say CA, OR or MT. Overall, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people think it is NH and most of the evidence suggests it is NH. Actually, it is possible that Ron Paul would have never run for President if his fundraiser in NH in 2007 wasn't so successful. So if you are glad that Ron Paul ran for President in 2008, you might want to thank some of the FSPers in NH that donated to his campaign in 2007.

I recommend checking this website out, http://freestateproject.org/intro/ron_paul

This is a great discussion on the subject I found.

That was from 2003. A lot has changed since than. For example, every state (of the 10 FSP candidate states) is now less free, especially MT, IMO. A few of the WY people broke away and there is at least 1 extra active political activist in WY because of that. Around 1,000 liberty activists moved to NH.

Here is a more recent discussion on the FSP Forum about the issue. http://forum.freestateproject.org/index.php?topic=24932.0

New Hampshire. Moved here 3 years ago as part of the Free State Project. I save thousands of dollars in taxes but the freedom and quality of life goes much further than that - check out the link below.
