Unless Doherty is writing it, I expect to find snark inside, but I can't fault the picture.

update: here's the article written by Brian Doherty

I still would *never* pay for one of these after what happened in 2007 and 2008 and I cancelled my subscription, but I wouldn't mind seeing this article if it shows up online (especially if Doherty writes it).

Heh, funny true story: They kept outreaching to me as the mod at http://reddit.com/r/libertarian, wanting sidebar links, collaboration, etc ... and I told them every time it's never going to happen, forget it. They have a pretty active social media team I guess, but they don't really "get" how disappointed a lot of us were I suppose. Instead of sidebar links, I took their requests public with a breakdown of 2007/08 and they got badmouthed by the mod and users of one of the larger libertarian forums online. Now literally thousands of teenage and twenty-something redditors are of the opinion "forget reason mag". Felt good man.

Woah, you're the mod at r/libertarian? That's awesome. Mod any other subredits?

Yeah I don't know about Reason. They put out some great videos but then they do some weird stuff that makes you question whether they're really libertarian or libertarian-lite. Like now they have the former MTV VJ 'Kennedy' making videos attacking people like Tony Bennett for being anti-war.

Some people in this movement just make me dizzy. If someone doesn't have Ron Paul on every cover or as the primary subject, they are "suspicious" and are not "true libertarians". This kind of thinking is the worst.

No it's not just that they critique Ron Paul, they actually have this woman Kennedy now making videos for them where she insults people for saying that U.S. foreign policy contributes to terrorism. I'm not going to approve of war mongering and propaganda just because the people putting it out call themselves libertarian.

On the other hand 95% of their stuff is great so..

Even if they are snarky or sometimes run anti-RP pieces, they still have some good content.

They've badmouthed Ron Paul over and over again. Anyone who reads this establishment drivel is a sucker.

Where have you seen this argument before? I see the opponents of Reason stating concrete reasons where Reason takes statist positions more often than what one would think a libertarian would. Furthermore, Reason are woefully unaware of the Classical Liberal tradition of the causation and correlation of War with Socialism, destruction of liberties, and the erosion of the morals of the people (e.g. it's 'unpatriotic' to question the State because troops are in harms way, etc. etc.). You can also point to the relatively Pro-Fed machinations of Reason. Reason also seems to believe that NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, etc. are free-trade when if they did any cursory reading of the legislation / treaties and mirrored it to Free-Trade theory that people like Francis Quesnay, Frederic Bastiat, Henry Bright, and Richard Cobden wrote about you clearly see how ANTI-Free Trade those treaties were.

Reason is a joke.

I just saw that video.

You know, even going back to the 1980s, Reason has always had a phony vibe to it, which was part corporate gloss/part nerds pretending to be irreverent hipsters. Videos like the one above seem to have this contrived thought behind it: "This will really connect!"

God, I hate these losers.

I'm showing my age, but does anyone remember the old magazine Inquiry from the early 80s? Greatest libertarian mag ever.

THE WORST WERE BOB BARR LP! bottom line if they do not meet the ron paul bar which is a high bar now. Then odds are they are lying!

I also agree with the frustration of people hating on institutions that 80% or more on their side, reason tries to represent the enitre libertarian community, which is a broad spattering. You have anti and pro paul people on staff, you have ancaps, minarchist, and even more state wielding libertarians on staff.

Reason is a conglomerate of Libertarianism, not just the Ron Paul crowd

I love us... but if Ron Paul can form coalitions, so can we

I've never read the Freeman but I'd love to if I could find it. That's the magazine Frank Chodorov started, isn't it?

As a Ron Paul newbie, can someone tell me what exactly Reason/CATO did?

Before I got on board with Paul, I read CATO fairly often. When I came across something about Ron Paul it was usually lukewarm at best, which is part of the reason I thought he was crazy if CATO didn't even care for him.

Cato is funded in good part by the Kochs who want more 'pragmatic' (corporatist) libertarian types to be the line of libertarian-ish thought gaining steam. Ron sucks the oxegyn from the room with all those principles and stuff.
