Cleon Skousen was a supporter of the John Birch Society and their views, although he was not an official member. Think about them what you want, but they certainly don't fit into the image that Romney wants to paint of himself.
Skousen is the author of conspiracy minded (to say it in a neutral way) books like the "The Naked Communist" and "The Naked Capitalist".

Mitt Romney seems to know Cleon Skousen well. During a radio interview in 2007, this took place:

You and I share a common affection for the late Cleon Skousen,” the radio host says. The former governor agrees, affirming Skousen was his professor “

OK, I've read he was a member. But he certainly shared their views, didn't he?

I found Ron Paul BECAUSE of the JBS. Just like Paul they have been getting it 100% right or close to it for decades and have been getting no respect.

Stuff that they were publishing 30 years ago and being laughed at for it is now accepted as common knowledge today. Problem is that we are suffering from the frog in the boiling pot syndrome.

As far as Mitt being Cleon Skousen's student at some point - It's not whose student you were that matters, it's if you learned anything....

Watch the video. He wasn't just "a student", he agreed having an "affection for the late Cleon Skousen".
As far as the JBS is concerned: I didn't say anything negative about them. It's just that Romney's public image wouldn't make me think he might have similar views...

So Romney could be a stealth candidate? We all know Palin was exposed as an establishment fraud, but wouldn't it be a hoot if Romney was incognito?

I think nobody knows what Mitt Romney really thinks.
But there must be something that makes Ron Paul prefer him over the other candidates. Maybe it's just his kindness?

Joel Skousen recently stated that the elite in this country and abroad are very uneasy about Paul and Romney. So there has to be something there. Maybe that's why Ron is so accomodating to Romney. He may know something we are not aware of.

Doubt it, but interesting.

Cleon and his nephew, Joel, are LDS. Most LDS that I know do admire Cleon, so I'm not at all surprised Romney does as well.

Joel endorses Ron Paul. He has a subscription-only newsletter that often details the corrupt election and vote fraud and also makes it clear the Ron Paul is our only choice. He also brings out the faults of the LDS candidates like Romney and Huntsman.

I'm sure there are some stormfront people here...

Hopefully that professor rubbed off on Mitt and he is just hiding those sentiments in order to win!

Politically Cleon Skousen was pretty right on. Its not conspiracy minded to say that there was an organized effort by communist powers to infiltrate the United States. The USSR was fairly open about it. The Naked Communist was above revealing communism for what it really is and the errors inherent in the system. It is a fantastic read about the dangers of socialism and communism to liberty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Naked_Communist

The Naked Capitalist, another of his, was about how the banking and military industrial complex were working in combination to push the US towards world power and establish an international government. I can't say I haven't heard similar talk from just these forums.

Why? Those organizations have nothing in common with us or Ron.
