Gardner is hinting that turnout will be up because of the attention on Washington county now. I'm sure the local grapevine would be buzzing there. He appears to want to distance himself from the controversey, and suggests the party should have held off announcing the straw poll until every town could be included.

One thing we keep hearing is that some towns *chose* not to participate. That's not quite true. Some of them had already selected and publicized Feb 18 as their caucus date, and didn't want to spend limited funds on a reschedule when the state party selected Feb 11 as the straw poll date.
