Justin Amash just got a serious democratic challenger. Liberal bloggers want him gone because he 'wants to be Ron Paul'.

Lol. Amash doesn't want to be Ron Paul.

Amash should get a donor list from Ron when he joins him on the campaign trail ;).

this is a solidly Republican district, Amash may have to worry about a primary at some point, but not a Democrat.

his seat is vital to Liberty, as he will be the voice of freedom in the house, but unless the Dems take 100 seats they won't take his

I'm from this district. The district has been historically conservative overall, but establishment republicans made it less so in redistricting. It was the only republican district in the state to become less republican after redistricting. Amash is one of the most party-independent republicans in the House, right beside Ron Paul. Draw your own conclusions.

All that said, the new district is one that Obama would have won in 2008. I think (hope) Amash will be safe, but he'll still need a lot of support from the liberty movement around the country.

And with RP leaving the House for good, keeping Amash in Congress should be a major priority of the liberty movement. A strong showing by Amash in 2012 will help him secure this seat for years to come. Otherwise he's going to have headaches every 2 years by establishment challengers. The incumbent before him, Vern Ehlers, held the seat for 18 years virtually unopposed.

Losing Paul AND Amash in 2012 would be a disaster for our cause.
