This is not about Rick Santorum in Iowa or Ron Paul in Maine. This is about the integrity of Democracy in these States. We have small time State Party apparatchiks who apparently feel no need to count every vote. Is disenfranchisement of voters the new norm? Election results are announced prematurely, and apparently at the whim of Party officials. Votes of actual party members seem to be more of a recommendation than a deciding factor.

This can not stand, and it is up to the disenfranchised voters and Party members who would like an honest and open process to take action and reform their State Parties.

EAST MACHIAS, Maine -- The Republican caucus in eastern Maine has been postponed because of bad weather.
...
Party officials planned to declare a winner Saturday evening, even with more caucuses scheduled for the coming week.

Caucuses in Washington County that had been scheduled for Saturday were postponed until Feb. 18 because of a major snowstorm. Earlier, party executive director Michael Quatrano said county officials had been told the results of that caucus would not count toward the total.

But in an interview, Washington County Republican Chairman Chris Gardner said that when the decision was made to postpone the caucuses, he did not realize his county's votes would not count toward the total.

Let's hope the numbers go up in Washington County. They need to go way up for Ron Paul to win Maine.

CNN and everyone else was saying there was record turn out, then the turn out in the final count is about avg. There was for instance THREE TIMES as many voters in Auburn and that trend seem to be everywhere Ron won.

That's what happens if you don't count a large portion of the votes...

Bangor Daily News is reporting we may have actually won.

What I posted in the thread:

Just got an account from the Auburn vote count observer. They made a motion to have all votes counted in front of the caucus. (THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE EVERYWHERE!!). The first count came in at 40 for Ron Paul. Apparently it did not look right so they had another person count. It came up as 50 for Ron Paul.

How the !#@$#@!#$ do you miscount by 20%? My 6 year old daughter would have been a better counter.

They say voters in Washington County were disenfranchised -- and they're right, although the final result probably wouldn't have been different.
...
Even though the poll is nonbinding, voters in Washington County charge that they're being disenfranchised. And since the state party portrays the results as meaningful, it seems like they've got a pretty good point...

The congressman himself is taking a conciliatory approach. He said on Face the Nation Sunday that he was "disappointed," but added that he has high hopes for winning the majority of the state's delegates at its convention in May. He very well may have a good run there.

As for Romney, he managed only only a thin plurality in a state he dominated in 2008, garnering 52 percent of the vote. But the big losers are the Maine GOP and the caucus system, which between Iowa's mishaps and this has been shown to be a highly questionable way to elect a presidential nominee.

Indeed, where is Jimmy Carter? Considering how things have gone so far, we need someone to monitor our elections.
