For republican conventions a well fitted suit, nice shoes(not old ragged ones) and a sharp red tie would be good, and a good hair cut and clean shave. I hate dressing up, but its better to do so than to be identified as one of those "youth" punks as the old GOP voters would view us haha.

Sorry I don't wear jackets or ties :)

I won't be made to do it just to fit in, I won't wear it to my wedding or my funeral.
I won't be a stuffy dressed stuffy headed person that judges others by their dress. I will wear a nice dress shirt, slacks and shoes, but jacket and tie is a step too far.

It is good tips for those that care to wear such silly costumes :D

I prefer to be myself, if I went as a suit wearing monkey I'd not be myself. and no I am not calling anyone wearing a suit a monkey, but myself if I wore such :)

I've never had trouble fitting in the GOP crowd even more casually dressed (than some) due to my background, but I understand some would, and I don't look like a hippy or anything, normally. My long hair now may say otherwise to some.

LOL. That tie will not help fitting in with old Republicans. Perhaps try it with no tie, Republicans would like the look better.

You recommend orange or yellow tie? That is crazy! Maybe that works in NYC but in rural America that would make you a joke.

I eat about 2 lbs of grapes, 10 oranges, 10 bananas, 1 lb of spinach/romaine, 1/2 lb of grapes tomatoes and two cups of pistachio nut everyday. I have been doing this for 6 days now and I have lost eight pounds, I have never felt better in my life than I do this past week. It's important to exercise too.

Some advice I sort of disagree with, but overall good stuff.

No, you don’t want your pocket square the same color as your tie, but it can match a pattern in a tie or be a different shade. It should match something in shade whether it be suit, shirt or tie/a pattern in tie. A white pocket square is safe if you are worried about matching as it goes with everything.

As for cufflinks, I also like to match them with a pattern in the tie if the cufflink has color to it, and I prefer to match a tie that is yellow or gold in color or a similar shade with a gold cufflink. A silver cufflink and a gold hued tie is not a good match.

As a final point, I have a closet full of this stuff and have not worn it for years except for weddings and funerals. 15 years ago it was business attire for me, but now a nice pair of slacks, a sport coat and a collared shirt is all that is needed.

The style now is business casual.

I think even in local political event settings, a blue blazer and grey slacks is fine – with tie optional on a nice collared shirt.

If you are a delegate at the GOP convention, what Alex is wearing would be appropriate.

It's important that people dress nice and look professional, especially at political events and if you are openly supporting RP and the Liberty Movement.

I know some of us RP supporters tend to go the beard and "I dare you to say something about how I look and live" route. Which, there is nothing wrong with.

My favorite suit is one my father had made for him in Italy in 1947. I got it altered for me as it is still in near mint condition. It is single breasted with double breasted lapels and is a raised black on black striped gabardine wool, with slits (forget the name)on the tails at both sides. Pants have a single pleat, scoop pockets and a pantleg cuff on stovepipe boot fit. Black silk shirt with Beatles Magickal Mystery Tour tie in deep fall tones with tophats and magic glove of burnt orange, maroon, navy and deep purple on blacks..my insignia;).

Quality of the suit does not matter as much as the fit. Buy a suit off the rack you like and take it to have it altered.

You don't need to have only blue shirts, you need a few good white shirts and maybe a blue. Get shirts with French cuffs if you can.

With regards to ties, anything will work. DO NOT wear Garcia ties. Wear bright colors with some simple patterns to really stand out. The pocket square is optional imo.

You don't have to spend too much either. You can get a decent suit a JC Penny for under $200 and a shirt and tie for around $40.

My older son is lucky in that he has a build that makes even cheap WalMart suits look good. He goes to thrift stores and buys suits (sometimes expensive, sometimes not) for $10.

I don't really have an attitude publicly, but online words don't project as well, so I guess you could say yes.

However, here many people go to official meetings without a suit and tie, as long as you aren't wearing cut off jeans and a shirt filled with holes you will be ok :)
It is actually my background and experience that allows me to really 'connect' and then bridge to the new political sense I have now, and I was always 'business casual' and see no need to change that.
Life experience and the way you personally carry yourself is as important as the way you dress, as long as you aren't totally sloppy in dress presentation.
