An individualist is a man who says: “I will not run anyone’s life—nor let anyone run mine. I will not rule nor be ruled. I will not be a master nor a slave. I will not sacrifice myself to anyone—nor sacrifice anyone to myself.”

Some say Ayn Rand was a popularizer.
YES! She was a popularizer and this is what the U.S. needs now more than ever.

Objectivism>>>Individualism>>>Constitutionalism>>>Capitalism>>>Freedom

Every normal person needs to base there politics on a philosophy.
All Christians follow the Bible, but none verbatim.
It’s OK not to follow Objectivism verbatim.

Let’s say the path to total Objectivism ends at the shore line of the west coast.
200 people can tell you 200 different ways to get there.
I’m just saying “Go West”.
If you get there, you get there, and what you pick up on the way is what you get out of it.
Just “Go West”

I agree that individual rights should be the key issue, but unfortunately the majority of Americans don't. Collectivism and Corporatism are the games of the day.

It's "if I can get government to give me more goodies, then why not?" rather than "government should stay out of my life unless I violate the rights of others."

The problem with Rand is the self-loathing that Objectivism leads to. At least in my mind it does. I'll stick to Individualism of the Spooner variety.

This may help.

The solution for people who seem over preoccupied with feelings is not the renunciation of feelings but rather greater respect for reason, thinking, and the intellect. What is needed is not a renunciation of emotion but a better balance between emotion and thinking. Thinking needs to be added to the situation, emotion does not need to be subtracted from the situation.

oh yes, individualism got things done.

Individualism cannot be said to have failed until it's at least been tried first. Same with free markets in general.

Individuals voluntarily collaborate. Thusly, individuals *do* get things done.

Why do you think Objectivism leads to self-loathing? For me and most if not all of the other Objectivists I know (not the pseudo/half-hearted variety), it's the opposite. In my case, it helped me see a few missing links in my life, and I've never been happier (in spite of some nasty shit going on around me).

Yes it did. It brought unparalleled wealth, prosperity, and peace to the world and continues to work to the extent that it's practiced. Me, I pick and choose the elements of Objectivism I accept.:toady:

Could you please name some of the major advancements in the past, in anything, that was achieved by a collective in the U.S.?
