We've gotten at least double the amount of votes last time and that just votes not counting people around the world who've joined the movement and people who arn't registered republicans and anarchists.
So we've at least doubled in size since 2008, so to double in size in 4 years you'd need to be growing at least a rate of 18% a year (72/4 tells you the rate)
That's an impressive growth rate

That is a great growth rate. I hope it can continue if we are not successful at getting the nomination in '12. My biggest concern is that once Paul steps away from the spotlight that a lot of the activists will leave the GOP and go back to wherever they came from.

Not fast enough. We don't need a majority. Irate, tireless minority.

That is great growth! Wish my other investments would return 18% a year

The real question is will this group grow fast enough to keep the country from falling apart?

Some would say that we fell apart a long time ago.

72/4? I forget, where does the 72 come from ?
I just worry that the momentum has peaked. There is no lack of people fed up with the state of our country, but everyone is so polarized to their own views.

Didn't we have 10% 4 years ago?

Yeah, look at what's going on. It's already fallen apart, most people just don't realize it.

It is much more than that, IMO. But for some reason, they don't want to vote in a primary.
Consider we are getting around 20% in the Republican Primary...
But we also get almost 20% in a Romney v. Obama v. Paul match up.. with many more people participating..
We just need to figure out how to get 1% of that 20% to caucus/vote during the nominating process...

10% of what? What percentage of the population in this nation even votes for president in the general? What percentage of that votes in primaries?
And I was talking about the liberty movement as a whole, not just Ron. Ron is a messenger.
Liberty, as a movement and an idea is growing. I can tell you that much.

10% of people who vote in primaries. You cant get to the general election, or truly influence people if you cant get onto a national platform.

I don't think this is what the study was referring to.
(But I don't think the study necessarily means anything either, I've just seen it around and thought it was interesting.)

the rule of 72
If you divide 72 by the rate of growth it gives you how many years it takes to doube
If you divide 72 by the years it takes to double it gives you at what rate to achieve it
So if we AT LEAST doubled in 4 years, that's a growth rate of 18% minimum.
Seriously, nobody can say they are growing like that, not even Obama

The country has fallen apart, we need to be influential so when the pieces get picked up, we put them back together

I totally agree, but saying it and making it happen are two different things.

Four words: Law of diminishing returns.
It will get harder.
EDIT: not trying to be a debbie downer, just saying we still have a lot of work to do because we can't keep this rate of growth every election season or every year.

Too bad we're losing our champion. Some will inevitably return to the duopoly with no standard-bearer.

Ron Paul has said himself this isn't about him, it's about the message and movement of liberty and following the Constitution. Even if the MSM and establishment do their best to marginalize the man Ron Paul, these growth numbers over the past few years show that they cannot so easily subdue the message & it's getting out there despite their best efforts. That's what we have to keep in mind, the bigger picture and a longer look into the future that while we may not win this race, there are many who are supporters of the message who will win so the voice of the movement gets louder in all levels of government. They already can't ignore us, give us another few years and continued steady growth and perhaps we will see the changes so many of us want to see.

Which relates to the question I posed earlier. If we do not win the nomination, where are the newcomers going to go? We have been able to grow the libertarian wing of the GOP, but my guess is that we are going to lose a lot of the grassroots activists who will get pissed off and go to the LP or CP.

People have probably left the state. The gambling industry is in the toilet and Clark county has one of the highest mortgage default rates in the country.

If we lose our champion, there will be nothing to return to. The duopoly will destroy this country before the next election.

Lol.
What is the plan if he wins? Have him put all those saved $$'s from ending the wars into life extension research?
The President is worthless.
Elect good local Sheriff's and Judges and nothing else matters. And guess what, it only takes a few thousand votes.

Exactly, and that is exactly what those of us in the libertarian wing of the GOP have been doing for years. PA is a good example. In 2009 we had Specter and Casey as our Senators. Now we have Toomey in there. Granted Toomey is not a Ron Paul conservative (and many of us supported Peg Luksik in the GOP primary) but Toomey is a lot better than Specter was, and a far cry better than Sestak would have been. Sometimes it takes baby steps to get to where we want to be, and working at the local and state level is a great way to do so.
